Greetings all,

I'm trying to use the BT speed test but every time I enter my telephone number I get the error message,
'Authorisation failed Incorrect Telephone Number - Please try again.' - even though the number is correct.  I know that speed test won't work with LLU providers but as IDNet aren't I'm a bit confused.  I've tried it with Firefox and IE, and I have the latest version of Java.  Anybody any thoughts?

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin and welcome to the forum, I am not a techie, so someone better qualified will answer shortly.

BT SpeedTester does work for me with IE6 every time, sometimes a bit slow.

Wow thanks for the prompt replies!

I've tried using the speed test regularly over the past week or so, including different times of the day but all to no avail.  I did enter my full code and phone number so I think that's OK.  At least if some others have experienced the same problem I'm not being a complete numpty and doing something wrong :).

Cheers

No it's not you, Martin, I couldn't get it to work over the weekend either, it was hanging at 96% completion or telling me it couldn't relate my phone number to any details.  :)

Looks like it was my weekend......did not have any problems with it........wonder if there is a connection to the other issue ? ???

You're not alone, Martin. When the tester doesn't want to play it will just refuse to recognise you. Try in the early morning if you can.

I have kept a regular eye on my Bt speedtest since Thursday and will forward them to support when and if a clear pattern is established. Having suffered slow speeds on Thursday evening I have had very good performance Friday,Saturday and Sunday. However I have noticed a steady reduction towards Thursday's level this pm and will continue to monitor later this evening. Anyone else having reduced throughput again this evening.

Yes, I've had similar results too Steve. Although I've not recorded the ones I got earlier today they were similar to last Thursday's and slower than over the weekend.

Rik

Mine hasn't changed, Steve, but then I am at the low end of the scale, so would probably get a sort of immunity.

Does any one know if the results of the BBC speedtester are automatically sent to or accessed by Idnet as it says just below where you enter your telephone number :

QuoteAll test results are logged and may be used by your ISP or BTW to assist in any issues that you may report.

Simon

Welcome Karma, have a cookie!  Umm...    :hehe:

I've wondered that myself, John, but drew the conclusion that the results had to be manually sent to the ISP by the user.  Could be wrong though.  :dunno:

AFAIK, they are logged, but not automatically sent to the ISP. You can tell your ISP that you've run a speed test and they can access the results, I think.

Lance

Maybe it only applies if the isp is BT openworld!

It's not quite a spoonerism, so I think we'd better say that Martin has just been Simonized. ;D

I believe that the results are logged so that ISPs can check them. Let's face it though, any of us could be right on this... :)
