Hi guys

Im interested in beta testing it but...

We are currently with talktalk landline, will it affect our bill? As in will it be free, will the talktalk costs still stand or what?

Another thing, will IDnet be offering it as a package potentially saving us money (as in, go with us for phone and broadband - save this much kinda thing) as that would defiantely be something to go for

Mum keeps seeing these kinda deals from other isps and even i have to admit it looks good value and i hope idnet can do the same

So an idea on costing please, plus any bundle deals (supermax is becoming expensive for me now lol) and also what happens  about my current talktalk deal, is it basically cancelling their service for idnets? We get free evening and weekend calls tho - so the only thing to tide me over would be come kinda saving on the broadband (free supermax from home max  :P or money off) or a really good deal on the phone line

Rik

You need to talk to IDNet, Sam, we're not privy to the information you want.

I don't wanna shove a spanner in the works here, or be a doom merchant, but this development kind of worries me tbh. I'd rather deal with a specialist in one thing that knows what they are doing, which is what I thought IDNet were. Moving into the territory of the other (and let's face it, worse) ISPs may not necessarily be a good move in the long run :-\

I'd have to remove the post, Sam. Until the products go live, information on them is confidential.

I'm sure many will share your concerns, Mad.

I don't think IDNET would compromise their service by going into this without lots of thought and testing.  After all they rely on their business customers and us so I can't see them putting themselves in jeapordy.  Have faith It will either be beneficial or not happen. :)

I share your concerns Mad, anyway to be perfectly honest, I have always received a good service from BT Phone Service, so I will never entrust my phone line to any other company.

I presume if a phone service (which i to am interested in) was available,  would have support on the weekends as well....

Rik

Afaik, support hours won't be changing, So, but you'd need to talk to IDNet for confirmation.

Good quality support as well - not the rubbish we come to expect form other providers.  I would imagine that support as a whole would need to be ramped up, leading to extra costs..............etc

Rik

Though presumably funded by extra profits.

I don't think I want to be a beta tester but I will be interested in what packages Idnet may eventually offer.

VaderDSL

If say one was already on discussed phone package would they be allowed to talk about it?

Rik

Discussion during the testing phase can only take place between testers in the dedicated board.

To quote "Simon_Idnet" post wher he expands on Martins Post :

QuoteThe major benefits are that we are able to offer cheaper call rates than BT plus:
cheaper line rental
no call setup charges

Thanks for that John - but I wasn't actually meaning the call fees - I was talking about the whole broadband packages.

Tbh, I don't want a phone service other than the one I've got - I don't make many calls at all on my house phone - in fact, the last quarterly bill I had, the actual call charges were less than £2 - but I definitely don't want to be paying more for my broadband to cover the extra support and infrastructure costs of a service that I don't want, and will not take up. As Rik says, this may well not happen - only time will tell.  :)

My main concern regarding all this is more that IDNet could become more "jack of all trades master of none" than the specialists that they are- and once you move into that kind of territory, we all know what happens  :(

john

I understand your concerns Mad regarding the quality of service and only time will tell if they are justified. However to be honest although I'm willing to pay Idnet's current charges for my broadband package they are more expensive than a lot of other ISP's, if non customers don't consider the quality, so I think they would find it difficult to justify increasing them.

The pricing of the Phone packages are made available to Beta Testers. We would like feedback on all aspects of the new packages, including pricing.

We're only offering BT phone lines and calls through BT's network. We will not be routing calls through any other networks (unless, of course, they are overseas calls).

The Phone packages will not affect our infrastructure as none of the traffic will pass through our network. This is, essentially, a billing operation. The are bills from IDNet rather than from BT, even though the calls are still made in exactly the same way. We are highly competitive against BT, there are no small-print gotchas that you only discover after entering into a long-term contract and we offer monthly contracts to prove our point.

A phone line cannot "run slow" or need Interleaving enabled etc etc. It either works or it doesn't (or it's noisy). When it doesn't work properly we have direct access to BT Faults for chasing a fix. Our customers can get us to organise the repair rather than having to wait in an offshore call-centre queue.

Our portal can provide you with rapidly updated call usage data that you can interrogate and we have packages that provide for unlimited weekend calls etc. And don't forget no call setup charges and per second billing.

One of the best features that I like about it is Converged Billing. That is, paying for a mixture of data download and voice minutes. You can use fewer Gb's one month but more minutes (than the package allowance provides for) or vice versa without incurring 'excess' fees.

If you choose a combined broadband + phone package that costs, say, £25 per month you can split that any way you like between voice minutes and data downloaded. For example you could use:
25Gb data download or
625 Daytime minutes or
3000 Evening Minutes or
A combination of 10Gb + 300 Daytime + 200 Weekend + 100 Evening minutes.

I think that's a great new billing model and, as far as we can tell, quite unique at present.
Simon

Sounds good to me Simon, I await the results of the test with interest.
