Hi all,

Ive been woundering recently, since the usual "nutters" in the street have gone mad on the christmass lights (looks more like blackpool illuminations..) my sync speed has plummited to ~ 1800kbs with interleaving on, where it has been 2500 or more over the past few months.

Could, theoretically, the christmass lights be having an effect?!

mrapoc

I too have lost a bit of sync but not too much atm  :D

Oh yes, it's quite common at this time of year - causes drops, loss of sync and all kinds of festive stuff.

Should be better in mid Jan though/

AvengerUK

Thought so! Since they came on in the evenings my sync was dropping every 5 mins - had to ask to get interleaving turned on! O'well, tis the season to be jolly...

(very jolly since my mac code just arrived and i can finally complete my order!)

AvengerUK

Or not...

Another problem with this time of year...goblins are very common  ;) "There's A Problem

Though with the increased propagation of radio signals during darkness, this first winter of widespread Max may throw up some interesting issues! ;)

Sadly, I'm inclined to believe that's true. Does it make me paranoid? (Who else do you know who went through three faulty TVs before getting one that worked, or two iPods, or 1200 tape streamers!  ::) )

Proberbly being a bit blind/short sighted at this of the morning...but why would i develop a headache? (note, if it was a joke it is also waaay to eairly for my sense of humour to become active!)

Rik

A bad headache would allow you to get home before 4pm...

AvengerUK

How can you spend something on Xmas? Xmas is a erm, well, a day?!

"I spend it on myself instead" - so do i!

Although what im going to spend my "Xmas fund" on (which this year is quite a lot!) is still in question ;)

Rik

We've done 'his and her' iPods this year, ideal for when we're travelling. Plus, we've added a pair of Sonicare Elite toothbrushes - not glamorous, but great for the teeth (we got a pair because they were half price :) ).

January will see a new desktop machine, haven't got beyond that yet...

AvengerUK

Ah, something which i need desperatly - sold my old machine a month back, currently using an old celeron (which is rather painfull!) - but im not spending anything on it until ~march ish, letting vista, dual cores, dx 10 (all the new stuff) to "calm down" as these things do!

Ipods? Pwwah! - i wouldnt touch them personally, i took the cheap route and bought a sumvision!

Rik

I'm going for a new machine in order to avoid Vista until at least SP1, ideally, though, I'd wait a few months longer. OTOH, there may be some bargains to be had next month...

As to iPods, I just preferred the operation to other makes. The software (iTunes that is), stinks - very inflexible, takes over functions and associations without asking etc.

BTW, whatever make of MP3 player you use, try the Bose tri-port in-ear headphones if you get a chance.

" try the Bose tri-port in-ear headphones if you get a chance."

Might just do that - my current earphones (not headphones ^^ ;) ) are broken anyway!

Rik

I know what you mean about earphones, but Bose insist on calling them headphones.

See them here. The bass is exceptionally good for such a small driver, though doesn't beat my Meridian D600s. :)

"£ 69.00

ouch...!

I was considering getting some of Razer's new headphones for my 360 as a present to myself - however those bose ones also have me tempted...

(does anyone know what the razer HP doohdah ones are like!?!)

Note: re: the topic topic! - i think this is a prime example of going off topic ;)  ::)

Rik

Off topic? Moi?? :)

They're not the cheapest, but I've not heard anything better in-ear. My next task it to persuade my wife I should buy the noise-cancelling on-ear cans, but the price of them is a real barrier! :(

yes, but im thinking of comfort - having something in your ears which playing xbox live aint good ;)

Rik

Oh I agree that on or round ear phones are better then in-ear anytime. OTOH, in-ear do fit in pocket. :)

Welcome back. If you can get the BT speed test to work, that will show your profile. Could be useful to CS.

Ye, thats basically what the email back said (bt speedtests will be needed to further investigate, kind of thing)

Does anyone know/have any advice on how to get a Bt speedtest to work??

It either does nothing, or it say's its busy. never got it to work as of yet ;)

Rik

5am is a good time - seriously! :(

There are no tips.  It either works or it doesn't, and some people seem to have more trouble with it than others.  I assume the tests are in some way regional and some areas of the country get more clogged up than others.

It works most of the time for me now, whatever time of day - though takes several minutes to decide to get on with it.

On the assumption that you are being prevented from using it by loads of others trying it out, your best bet is as Rik says to pick a time when nobody rational is awake and try it then.

Rik

If I'm awake at 5am, I'm definitely not rational!  :)

Not the best ive ever had but the best for over 2 months!

NOTE: Latency bit obviously aint working, getting good latency (30ms with interleaving)

On a side note, i might get home supermax some time, (i love the higher upload...lol) - does anyone know if theres an upgrade charge? i.e. on top of the extra per month

I found when i tried the method below it worked first time. (see the bit about not using the http:// below)

..:: Running the BT Speed Test

BT Speed Test completely bypasses your Internet Service Provider. Therefore we must use a different username and password for connecting our ADSL Broadband connection to the BT Speed Test.

First thing to do is to find your username password that your use on your modem/router to logon your Broadband connection. I'm afraid you will have to find this yourself as there are far too many combinations of modem/router to list here.

Once you have found the login page, take note of what the username and password currently are. It's not a good idea to loose this information.

..:: BT Speed Test login details

Next we need to change the username to : speedtest@speedtest_domain and leave the password blank. (no password).

Then simply establish the connection with the new details. Once the connection has been established, load up a suitable web browser and enter either of the addresses below in the address bar  http://217.35.209.142 or http://217.32.105
Or use the same addresses without the http://
