Is it such a bad thing, So? As a non-user, to me it doesn't seem unreasonable to offer the codecs if people want to buy them. Surely there will be alternative sources if they don't?

Nothing has changed, if i wish to use free codecs they are and will remain readily available, if you want to buy codecs, Conical will point you to them.

codecs as in video codecs?

Why not use VLC media player instead? It plays just about everything. No codec installs required.
