Phone software question

Ok,its been a while 

The software which came with my phone is on a mini CD but the CD cannot be read by my pc because of the pc has a slot and not a tray.
If I manage to get the software on another pc would this software be able to be transfered via a memory stick?

Surely the phone software is available as a download.I never bother with the one that comes with the phone as its usually out of date and as soon as you install it,it then insists on an update.

Its an LG software update program, not downloaded it I wonder whether it will ask for the presence of the original.

I tried this once installed it wants the IMEI,the Model No and the serial.seems a lot for software could understand it for firmware.
