First I should really say hi, have been an idnet customer since january, with the exception of a month in august when I moved home twice, which will hopefully go part way to explaining what kind of crazy my life has been this year that I havent got round to posting before now.

Secondly, & I hope I'm posting this in the right forum as its more of a technical question than game specific, years ago I used to host a server for myself & a couple of friends on Call of Duty - United offensive, to which they used to get around 50ish ping (they live in the same town ). Trying to host a server on CoD4 now, not often just an hour or 2 a week usually, & my friends get ping of 100, & I'm currently trying to get to the bottom of why this is happening, I have requested interleaving off which will hopefully happen on monday, & I have looked into all kinds of tweaks & such, but the world of routers is a bit of a mystery to me right now.

I'm waffling....., to get to the nuts n bolts of it, I found the setting on my router to allow ping temporarily, & had my friends ping me & run tracert, they both get virtually the same results, & generally have pings between 30-60 to any game server in the uk,  so I will only post one to save space & your time.

Hop 19 is my I.P address, & I would like to know if this indicates the problem is with my router at the moment, or if its routing between Idnet & me, as this is where both of their pings suddenly jump up, as I have not been able to find a clear answer googling away.

All ports are forwarded for the game & they can join with no problems or packet loss, & I can join any uk game with around 45 - 65 ping. Idnet has been fantastic since I joined, often see over 800k a sec downloads off peak, & usually 500-600+ even onpeak, I do live 140metres from my exchange, I can see it if I look out the window  ;)

I know its not a major problem, but its a niggling one which I would like to get to the bottom of, as my friends do like to say I have an unfair advantage as an excuse every time I shoot them :D

Thanks for your time & sorry for the long post, hope I didnt bore you to sleep.

edit to remove personal ip address

Hi karser  :welc:

Someone will be along shortly that will be able to offer some advice, have you spoken to the support team about the problem?

Having interleaving switched off should certainly lower the pings. But I don't know the answer to your question about the 19th hop - that may be one for IDNet. :)

Rik

Hi Karser, welcome to the forum. :) :welc:

TBH, we normally get asked about pings going in the other direction, so I have no idea what the problem might be. Some routers do give low priority to ping requests, so that's one possibility, but I think you would be best talking to support, who can take a look at your connection from their end.

Thanks for all the welcomes guys :D. I havent asked support about it yet, because I wasnt sure if it might be a setting on my router, if it is I should probably contact linksys rather than idnet, so I thought it might be better to throw it open to the forum first, but I will email support later.

Steve

Welcome. Hopefully removing the the delays caused by interleave and error correction will solve you ping issues.
