anyone noticing a slow down in general page loading etc today.  ???

Rik

Not here, Baz, but I'd imagine news and financial sites are taking a lot of hits today and may, in themselves, be slow.

Baz

hmmmm  strange, pages which are normally speedy as are just hanging mid way then taking ages to actually fully load, even the forums here

Rik

I'm definitely not seeing that, Baz. Have you checked your exchange status?

Baz

router stats are

ADSL Link                Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    8128 kbps    448 kbps
Line Attenuation       36.0 db       18.0 db
Noise Margin                 7.8 db          23.0 db

test from speedtest.net

Rik

No problems there, Baz. If the issue persists, give support a ring, they can check your line and see if there's anything going on with BT. Do try to get a BT test done, though.

ok Rik will keep an eye on it  :thumb:

I think BT are messing around again. A few seem to be having these bizarre issues. See how it goes and let IDNet know if things don't improve.

Baz

seems to have perked up again

Ann

You've pinched my speed..

Yes, I am since yesterday. Have just returned from Spain where I could access all my normal sites with no problems at all. Then spent a couple of days using someone else's Be connection, with no problem at all. Now back to IDNet, and slow page look-ups, or pages failing completely, so I come to look at the forum, and guess what? A "speed issues" thread :(

What's the excuse this time?..... because whatever it is doesn't extend to Spain, or Be's network in East Sussex.

I can only suggest you contact IDNet.  Or migrate to Be.  ;)

Be has just recently enabled my exchange, so that's looking like a very attractive option. Contacting IDNet support, again, isn't so attractive, not least because they aren't available to speak to outside of office hours.

I was with Pipex for years and called their support a handful of times. I've been with IDNet since February and have lost count of how many times I've needed to contact them. ::)

Simon

IDNet isn't for everyone.  If you have Be enabled, that might be your best option, as I believe they are LLU.  :)

Moonshine

Good Morning all.

The sun is beating down, and all is right with the world.  Well, almost....!!

I appear to be experiencing slow speeds lately, too.  As usual, I know absolutely nothing about what is normal for my line and what is not, so I have taken the liberty of doing a BT speed test (results copied and pasted below):-

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 3392 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2289 kbps

Could someone enlighten me as to whether this is normal or not, or should I be concerned?  Forgive me, I have no idea how to provide router stats, so if these are needed, would someone be able to please inform me how to do this?! :-[

Many thanks.

Moonshine. :)

What router are you using Moonshine? Length of line and SNR can affect things and without these its hard to tell
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Rik

The throughput is about right for your profile, Moonshine, and your profile is correct for your sync speed. I'm guessing that your connection has dropped recently and re-connected at a slightly slower speed, which has caused your profile to drop by 500k. Another 32k of sync would give you that extra 500k.

See if your router is listed here, if it is, just follow the appropriate instructions.

Thanks!

Is this what I need to be posting here?:-

Item Downstream Upstream Unit
SNR Margin 7 23 dB
Line Attenuation 51 29 dB
Data Rate 3392 448 kbps

Moonshine.

Sebby

They look fine, Moonshine. The rate certainly isn't bad for a 51dB line, but perhaps a little low. All in all, I would say things are absolutely fine.

Moonshine

Thanks, much obliged!  ;D
