Does anybody know of an alternative mail prog to Win email express, preferably free, I need a spellchecker and have realised I need other (expensive) Microsoft programes to get one to work in Express, I'd rather not add to Bill Gates personal fortune.

Windows Live Mail has a free built in spell checker Bob.

It will also transfer your " Express " settings over automatically.  :thumb:

Rik

Shouldn't that read Thunderbird is (the way to) go? ;D

Windows Live Mail is a much improved version of Outlook Express, and it's pretty good (and it's free!). Otherwise, as everyone else says, it has to be Thunderbird. :)

And it can have an English Spell Checker if you look here.

Added just for the sake of completeness you understand ;)

Thanks, Les. :thumb:

I don't use it myself, so any tips are always handy. :)

Had a strange problem with Thunderbird last night that I can't explain, all of a sudden all my mails in my Inbox disappeared. When I checked the directory where the should have been it was only 0 Kb. Thank heaven for Shadow Copy! Was able to restore a previous version that was only 2 days old. I've now set Thunderbird to leave emails on the server for 7 days before deleting them.  :thumb:

I can't explain that either, Steve, unless you somehow have two Thunderbird profiles, and it got confused?  :dunno:

I can only assume it was operator error. The last thing I did was to mark an email as spam (this automatically moves it to the deleted folder) and compact my Inbox. I must have somehow marked all my emails as spam and in compacting the Inbox it removes everything from the deleted folder. In any case I only lost a few mails and now I have a way of recovering everything should it happen again!
