Is there something wrong with the speed tester ?

Ran another test on Thinkbroadband and it came in at 6148kbs  or 6mB

Both are great but one is imposable  :eyebrow:

Usual issue is your anti-virus/internet security suite.Where they disabled prior to testing? If I don't disabled Kaspersky I get amazing D/L speeds

Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

So lets get this straight, if I want to run a speed check and down load about 18mb of data I should switch off my virus checker  :o :-\

Depending on virus checker, yes, Den.

So I'm downloading 18mb of virus and my checker is switched off, that sounds like a good idea, must try it. I think I would rather have a dodgy speed check every now and again.  ::)

I find that SpeedTest.net is pretty inaccurate, even with my antivirus disabled. I always use the , which I find consistent.

Agreed Sebby, I use that one and also this tester    http://www.broadband-expert.co.uk/broadband/speedtest/index.php  and they both seem to register pretty much the same speeds, for me anyway.  :thumb:

Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them.

thats a very good speedtester, I get the following from my latest provider O2 on the 16MB package I signed up to since leaving IDNet 2 months ago.

Your Download Speed: 13.27 Mbps

Your Upload Speed: 1057 Kbps

when it comes to downloading , I usually get circa 1.4MB/sec

have things been improving on the good ship IDNet within the last 2months guys ? is the planned extra capacity still on target for November 08 installation ?

The target is governed by BT, James, so we just have to cross our fingers. Significantly, the IPStream Connect product, which would allow users to move to the new host link before their exchange was WBC-enabled, has slipped to August next year (for the moment). As a result, IDNet have a new central on order, which will prevent any congestion in the meantime. Note that there is now no congestion on the IDNet network following a manual re-balancing, but that many exchanges are becoming congested as BT focus on WBC/21CN.

Might be wrong, but I pretty sure that the London server on speedtest.net and the above are one and the same

That may be the case, but SpeedTest.net always tells me that Maidenhead is my closest server. I must remember to selecte London next time. :thumb:

Yes, but by the time speedtest.net loaded and is ready you've finished the D/L test on bbmax ;D

So true. It's the slowest Flash site I've ever seen!

Thinkbroadband test
Speed Test Results
Date 21/10/08 21:08:45

Speed Up 367.33 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.

I agree that speedtest.net is the sloooowest Flash I have seen but at my slow connection to the 8meg MAX !! system it compares to Thinkbroadband and BT . Maybe at faster rates they diverge?

Over the last year of tests here all the above seem to agree. I have heard speedtests sites can be given "special priority" at server level on traffic shaped ISPs and I think the full BT one can bypass local additional local connections at the PC level.

It's not what's causing your slow speeds, unfortunately. ;)
