Joining IDNEt and buying micro filters

Hi All,

Haven't been on for a bit....work is a killer. Any how my father in law has just bought himself a brand new snazzy Medion S5610 Laptop great deal by the way. Really high spec'd machine.

I have persuaded them to join IDNET and we are giving them our Belkin wireless router, however we don't have any spare micro filters. When we went to join via the website we couldn't see how you select the filters...is it possible if not where's the best place to get them from. They need two.

I have seen Amazon sell them for £2 each, is there much of a quality difference between the £7.69 one and a £2 one. I take it you can't get them when you place your order for IDNET.

You could treat yourself to a filtered faceplate here and give them your old filters.

You could of course treat them to a filtered faceplate if they have the right sort of socket to fit it to.

Thanks guys, I think he'll just go for the cheapy option. Although saying that I have tried to join him up this evening and having put all the direct debit details in, it lost all of them bar 1 digit when i hit enter. So have to speak to idnet on monday to sort it out.

Then hopefully he'll have plain sailing for the rest of it.

i would recommend adsl nation filters. They perform better than most and should last longer too! The cheap ones tend to cause more problems than they are worth, although you might be lucky. Your best bet is to get the filtered faceplate. It gives the best performance and negates the need for having any other filters.

I would recommend that he doesn't go with cheap, £2 filters. The filter is one of the most important elements in getting a good connection.

As others have suggested, a filtered faceplate is the best solution, but this is only really viable if the router can be sited at the master socket. Otherwise, go with the original plan of microfilters, but I'd say go with something decent.

I'm not sure whether IDNet sell them, sorry.

They don't yet, Sebby, but I've suggested that if they're going to have a shop then decent filters and face plates would make a lot of sense.

It does say when you join IDNET, that you can purchase additional hardware and it lists micro filters as one of the options but when the drop down box appears, there are none to be seen.

Anyway as ever I will take your sage advice and persuade him to go for the snazzier...well when I say snazzier...better quality filters...after all with the exception of the face plate one...which does look snazzy the rest are just little white boxes.

Can I buck the trend here?... I started off with BT soap on a rope fliters, cost about a fiver each, they lasted about 6 months, changed them for Solwise fixed ones that cost around 99pence each, never had a problem since.

I have used them for around 2 / 3 years now.

Plus there will always be exceptions. I consider Solwise stuff to be pretty good. And, as Rik says, you have a good line, so you probably don't need such a good filter as us.

Well as ever IDNET did exactly as requested and called my father in law and processed the order, he'll be joining live in the next 10 days.

He also got 4 free filters from his brother in law so we are all squared away.
