I know it's been asked by others before but as everyone's line is unique, I figured there's no harm in me asking the same question.

Is it worth asking for interleaving to be turned off, based on my router stats and history?

Line Attenuation    26.0 db       15.0 db (but probably 30db)
Noise Margin         6.3 db    24.0 db

The only thing that ever changes in my stats is the downstream attenuation which fluctuates between 6.3db and 6.7db which, AFAIK, is normal.

When I migrated to IDNet my sync was 8128 and I had a BT profile of 7150 which was the case for four months.  Went away for a long weekend, got back and noticed my sync had reduced to 7616 and profile was reduced to 6500 due to interleaving being switched on.  Pings were originally 12ms and became 22ms but as I don't game online, it wasn't an issue.  The D-link router didn't help though because it was really rubbish.

Upgraded all my hardware in June and the only (three?) random disconnects since then have been IDNet-related and nothing to do with my line (or Netgear router).

It's neither a macho thing nor an urgent request, just an inveterate tweaker's urge to squeeze out that little bit extra from the line, just because it's possible.

Should I just ignore it, or ask for interleaving to be disabled and see what happens?

With those stats, I'd be inclined to ask for it to be switched off, Drummer. If the line can't handle it, then the DLM software will kick in and switch it back on.

Me too. It's fairly difficult to say from line stats as it's more to do with errors, but I would think it'll be okay. And, as Rik says, the worst that can happen is it gets enabled again.

Got a reply email from Andrew at IDNet on Friday telling me interleaving would be inactive today and it was.  Didn't have to reboot the router nor nuffink.  How brilliant is that?

Pings are down to an average of 12ms although my profile is still 6500kbps but I've only tested once during peak time.  My sync has gone back to 8128kbps though, so I'm one happy chappy.

No idea how I check the potential for problems on the Netgear DG834G although, having said that, I wouldn't have a clue what any of it meant if I did know how to check...

The couple of speed tests I've done are looking quite good though.  Early days yet.

The profile should rise to 7150k in a couple of days.

As for problems, if you don't experience slow throughput, don't worry.

A lot of my (not poor) friends think a £25 monthly fee is too much for broadband and I've now given up trying to explain why I think they're wrong.

Still here after two years because I want (and am happy to pay for) stability with the best speeds my line can support.
