Did anyone else's t'internet turn into treacle last night? It got so bad for me that at one point pages weren't even opening.

It was almost like being with my old isp again. :o

I'm only asking as it might have been me. I'm trying out a *ahem* new version of XP at the mo and I guess there's a chance that it might be at fault.
Rich.

I even started a thread last night containing the word "treacle", treacle.
A quick scan of the forum will show this.
I also mentioned CarpNet in the thread.

I'm wondering if it's a DNS problem with IDNet, tho not sure how to determine whether it is.

Philip

its been slow, early evening, all week for me, but returns to normal about 8pm ish

Nerval

and slow again now

ou7shined

Great minds...eh Nerval. ;)

Well at least it isn't just me then. Mine ground to a halt around 1 or 2 this morning though, so traffic shouldn't be at fault.
Rich.

There's a report on AG of somebody getting a DNS failure on one of the servers.

Something's definitely not right, as browsing was fine over Christmas when it should have been really busy.

Philip

should betting around 5500kb/s, my exchange has been red since November, but speeds over Christmas were superb

DorsetBoy

Speedtest.net to Munich 5684 kbps
Speedtest.net to London 2823kbps
Toast.net to Open Hosting London 2020kbps.

Europe or Canada are fine, London poor, and looking at Speedtest.net many of the servers are missing today.

Speeds have been erratic all day so far.

Philip

better now, but like dorsetboy says, very erratic.

I have used this test with the following result -

http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/band-test/speedtest.html

Your line speed:

6580.6 Kbps

Nerval

Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs!
After moaning all day about speeds, I got a record speed tonight

ou7shined

It's just starting to get bad for me again. Web pages taking 1-2 secs to come up. :(
Rich.

Klaatu barada nikto!

Nerval

Know what you mean. It's erratic - sometimes OK others slow.
Can't get over the speedtest though.

ou7shined

Here's what speedtest.net say for me.....

ping's pretty rank but speed's only a bit (~1000) lower than what I usually get from this test ???
Rich.

Klaatu barada nikto!

Nerval

Yes Rich
Pings have always been variable for me - from brilliant to awful and back again.
BT speedtest gives 4.65Mb same as other one.
But browsing still variable.
Oh well.
May just be busy as I'm not normally on at this time so can't say what's usual.

LOL I tried BT speedtest. Guess what?

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Good old BT speedtest. :D

Ooh! 100th post :banana2:
Rich.

Philip

back to normal now, just seems to early evenings for me.

ou7shined

Humph! I'm still surfing through treacle porridge. :(

Good for you though Doc.
Rich.

mrapoc

Yea, last night many pages wouldnt even load and also kept losing connection to bf 2142 and xfire kept reporting a high latency between me and the servers

ou7shined

Huston we have a problem!
Rich.

Klaatu barada nikto!

DorsetBoy

Yup! Speeds of only 212kbps I call a problem and my synch has dropped today, router has NOT been off though.

spiral

Yep i'm getting slower browsing too.
If you keep repeating a lie, keep repeating a lie for long enough it will become truth.

old Bill

After the last few days of good speeds. They have dropped like a stone tonight. Geting well below 1 meg. Is the whole world on the net again or is there a problem someware ?

Philip

on the slppery slope again :o

ou7shined

It's hard to know just where to post this with so many similar posts ???

I've had more mysterious disconnects. The last being around 1:30am.
Also I'm pulling in (what should be) a healthy torrent but it's taking forever with masses of failed hash checks. Everything feels sluggish still.

Do we have an official comment on the state of affairs yet?
Rich.

You'll need to ask of AG if you want an official comment.  Simon seems to post much more on there than he does here.

RJM

Same here, speeds have dropped and a few disconnections also.

Read Simons post here then can we all use the thread  to keep all the speed and ping posts in one thread - thanks.

What does the TTL bit mean and how do you cut'n'paste the results from a cmd box?

1] Time To Live.

QuoteShort for Time to Live, a field in the Internet Protocol (IP) that specifies how many more hops a packet can travel before being discarded or returned.

2] Right click in the box , hit "select all" then "Enter" to save it.
