High Pings & Slow Internet Speed

Hi all. I'll get straight to the point.

Got a Speedtouch 565 V6 and have always connected at around 3.8Mbps. For a while it hasn't been anything above that.

Recently (3-4weeks now), i've had a rough time with my net. BT have reported no faults and i've done a line noise check with a radio as advised by IDNet on the phone.

Anyway, I was reading a thread on high latency issues and I done a tracert to www.jolt.co.uk and the first line was not what others have which was <1ms to there routers. I've got:

over a maximum of 30 hops:

1               67ms               99ms               99ms           dsldevice.lan [192.168.1.254]

Is that a bad thing? Could it explain why this is going on?

My exchange is Sanderstead which is literally a 3minute drive away.

Oh and as for telephone sockets, I've got old Telecom ones and only 2 in the house. We've opened up both and none have a master hidden socket behind the template. Would you say they need changing?

I just read the thread on removing the Ring Wire and guess what.... i've connected at 5.2MBPS

Its a know bug with the 585v6 although you state 565v6, ignore it just look at the rest. Mine always reported similar @100ms to dsldevice.lan

Ring wires are wonderful things, emzino, especially when you disconnect them.

Gonna stick around now defo. My exchange is going to be BT 21CN compatible by the end of March. Oooo can't wait.

But as far as I read, those Ring Wires act like a huge antenna. Why on earth would they install such a thing

It goes back to when the capacitor to make the phone ring was in the phone, and not the socket I believe.

Now that i've got new speed, would it take a couple of days for it to stabilise? I read somewhere it takes around 3 days to do so.

Your sync speed changes instantly, but BT use a profiling system to limit their computing load, and it's the profile which governs throughput. This takes up to five days to catch up, so I'm afraid patience is called for. (We hate profiles!!)

Best to leave things as they are if you can,should you initiate a resync when your line is at its noisiest i.e during hours of darkness and you resync at lower rate BT will very quickly drop your profile to reflect the new rate and as from previous posts any gains in profile are hard won.

It is difficult to say what further improvements in sync rate may occur in the long term without knowing further details about your connection in particular your downstream noise margin and attenuation. If you want further info take a look at www.kitz.co.uk

I'd definitely leave it connected. Your profile will hopefully update in about 3 days.
