Didn't think I'd miss this as much

I run 2 PCs, with PC2 being the "test bed" before stuff gets on to my main rig.

Several months ago I tried Vista 64 Bit on it and wasn't keep, so I re-installed XP and set it up to dual boot XP and Ubuntu.

Last weekend, after good reports about following SP1, I decided to try again. Since XP is the 32 Bit edition, I had to install Vista 64 from scratch, knowing full well that it was going to mess up dual boot, but since Ubuntu is on a separate drive, I figured it was fixable.

You have no idea how hard this was to repair, and after three evenings searching and experimenting how to get grub back to give me dual boot, I've finally managed it this evening and got my old Ubuntu installation back (I was close to re-installing Ubuntu). The odd thing is, I'm ever so happy to see it back.

Could this be a sign that, finally, at least in this household, the tide is turning and Linux is starting to make the grade, or am I just pleased that I got my hands very dirty delving into the guts of OS booting and I triumphed?

As an aside - Vista will NOT be seeing my main machine just yet.

Have I lost my way?

I binned my dual boot when I got my new PC and put Vista x64 on it. Haven't really missed Fedora at all and until Adobe Lightroom runs in native Linux I've no plans to revisit.
