do you know in FF3 if you can disable that Smart Location Bar which guesses what you want as you are typing in the address bar. I dont like it so far.

yeah good link thanks Glenn.

heres another one for you then :) when I opened FF3 after using FF2  I had quite a few bookmarks missing. Use FF2 again and they are still there  :dunno:

Rik

How did you moved to bookmarks to FF3?

bookmarks were imported from IE to FF2 originally Rik. I just thought that they would be all there when upgrading to FF3

Strange Baz, I never lost any in the transition, all went over automatically. ???
Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

Rik

I take it you didn't install over FF2 from what you say, Baz, so did you do anything specific within FF3 to import the bookmarks, or let it do its thing?

Are the bookmarks in the same location for FF3 as 2, by that I mean is FF3 pointing to the same dir as the bookmarks for ff2?

just let it do itself

Rik

It would be worth following Glenn's link, then, and importing your v2 set.

dont know about that Glenn, how will I find out. I have FF2 and FF3 in seperate folders when I downloaded FF3 incase I wanted to go back to FF2

kinmel

FF3 has a totally new method of storing bookmarks.

The easiest method of transferring them is to install the Febe extension on both versions then backup bookmarks for FF2 and restore them into FF3.

In fact use Febe to copy all your settings and preferences across.

I second the FEBE recommendation, Alan. Excellent addon.

ooooo..that sounds good and easy. off to look now  ;D.........

but the latest version doesnt work with FF2. an older one is available, will that do?

Glenn

Does the import button on FF3 import from FF2? If not then export your bookmarks from FF2 to a file, then import into FF3 from that file.

It should do, Baz, or do what Glenn suggests.

It seems that Febe doesn't migrate data between FF2 and FF3, sorry about that

Here is guidance on the Febe Forum

I don't know why they had to change the file formats with FF3.  It was so easy before, as you could just copy and paste stuff from one profile to another.  :dunno:

It's something which software developers seem to revel in, sadly. :(

It seems that the developers thought the SQLite database and Json were much more secure , except for the FF3 addon SQLmanager which gives complete access to the databases. Go figure.

The Sqlite databases made it easier to develop the AWesome (Awful) bar apparently.
