heres something I learned today, after getting a java update last week I found that older versions are never uninstalled so if youve had a few updates of java the old ones will still be there.Some of them can be over 100MB so its best to uninstall the older ones when you've updated.

That's assuming the installed programs don't require a particular version to run, we have around 6 versions of Java for apps at work

I read somewhere that it's best to leave the last version when an update is installed, but versions previous to that are probably unnecessary.

Like Glenn, at work we have to have a specific older version installed for the finance system as well as the newer versions. I'd be suprised if the home user had this need.

I never know for certain which one's are the old versions, they don't seem to follow a logical format.

They usually have an update number if you look in Control Panel > Add/Remove, In.

Indeed Rik, but they are not in a logical format apparently, newer versions have lower numbers than older versions.

I just scrapped everything and started again - so far with no ill effects.
