Loss of connection?

Anyone else just lose connection?

This is driving me nuts... Surely there is something causing this? It is getting beyond a joke... This happens very frequently.

Yes, about two minutes, no loss of PPP or sync recorded locally, IDNet are investigating...

I have to say, for me, it's a very rare occurrence.

You are lucky. There is a fairly long thread about it on the forums and also numerous other smaller ones opened in the last few months.

Yes, I just lost PPP (not sync) for about 5 minutes - the router hung on checking username and password for a while but then reconnected while I was on hold for support at IDNet.  Doesn't happen to me very often, but there was a spate of this some time ago.

By the time I restarted my router, the connection was back.

Have to be honest in the last 12 months since joining Idnet, I've only encountered a loss of connection that I can count on one hand. When I was with Tiscali, I would have needed the population of Birmingham in order to count all the fingers on all the hands.

Not being funny, but doesn't the fact that most of the threads are either started by, or are contributed to by the same people, indicate a more local issue?

I have to say, like Rik, I've experienced very few disconnections, but I understand the frustration.

Could be a BT radius server, a datacentre, a switch at IDNet etc. Until I hear further, I am only speculating.

You will find the peolpe that "notice" these problems are people who do things like internet radio, thats what i do when working if the radio goes off i know i can stop work for 5 minutes. (i am a remote engineer)

either that or they are sado gamers who cant stand being mullered because they lost connection. (like me again)

or they are just very sad and have the router stats page on the desktop.

Lost connection a moment ago too, but there was quite a few in the last week as well that I haven't seen a thread on, as much as 2 disconnects a day; early in the morning and another at some point throughout the day. Getting a bit irritating now especially when I ping timeout on IRC when I'm recommending IDNet to other people :p

Lost mine about 33 minutes ago didn't lose synch though, don't know how long for, I hadn't even noticed the loss until I checked my logs after reading this thread.

Oh router stats page is definitely me......

The problem is this very seldomly happens with other ISPs I have regular experience with. My Zen line has been up for 4 months and was only rebooted for a firmware update (no loss of connection/sync/router reboot in that time etc). Before that, it was 8 months.

With IDNet this happens a few times a week (only in the last few months) - Generally only for a few minutes at a time but its a nightmare when you're in the middle of working on something and you then have to re-establish VPN and multiple SSH/RDP sessions.

Yes, I'm wondering how anyone cannot notice a loss of connection when trying to access e-mail through a VPN or simply surfing the net!  In any case, my router gives a loud click when PPP is either established or is lost.

I've just had a word with Simon. Due to a configuration error in one of their routers, a process became a CPU hog and chucked everyone off briefly. The router has been suitably admonished and the error corrected.

You're just not paying attention  first thing I notice is that yahoo messenger goes down.  If you have something like that on all the time, you notice.

I have live messenger on all the time as well as outlook checking emails every 5 minutes and have noticed no downtime or dropped connections at all so it is not necessarily widespread.

lets be honest a 1-2min glitch on an internet connection every 4-8 hours.

is this really life threatening?

annoying maybe, but hey i can remember using a 300baud modem to connect to maplin, farnell and RS

when that dropped out i just shrugged my shoulders.

its part of the 24/7 culture we live in.

Don't get me wrong without an internet connction i cannot use the phone or work (i use voip ad vpn heavilly)

when it goes down (very seldom with idnet) i get a break from work, LOL.

but whats a 30 second dissconnection? when i was with NTL it used to be hours not seconds!!!
