Been having issues with my adsl connection since the 15th
its syncing slower and the ip profile has droped

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 4704 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3198 kbps

I was Previousely getting a sync speed of arround 6500 and a ip profile of 6000

Port   Status            TxPkts   RxPkts Collisions  Tx B/s  Rx B/s  Up Time
WAN  PPPoA             517628  548921 0           5563    12741  02:12:01
LAN   10M/100M        547258  517356 0           13717   6726   02:12:29
WLAN 11M/54M/108M 6956     9674    0           650      140     02:12:24

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4800 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 14.8 db 21.0 db

Checked on the bt broadband avalibility checker
And it says 4mb is the max speed on adsl max when i have had arround 6.5mb for about the last year
has bt changed somthing or is it a fault

This may sound silly, but have you, or your neighbours, put up a lot of Christmas lights?  I believe that these can cause electrical 'noise', and affect broadband signals.

I'm not one of the most technical people here, but I expect there will be some other comments / questions later.

By the way, I never said it yesterday, so :welc: and :karma:

No Christmas lights on any of the houses this end of the village  :-\

Simon

OK, well as I said, someone with more expertise will be along later, or in the morning, failing which, your best course of action would be to contact IDNet.  You might, in the meantime, find some useful information, and things to try, in our FAQs:)

It seems your SNR has been set to 15dB by BT because of line errors, in time it should reset back to 6dB but you can ask IDNet support to have it reset manually

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

Lance

It seems that something is causing noise and therefore affecting your line seriously. How about simple lights on the tree in the house? Is there anything else which is new since the 15th?

not that i know of havent got a tree yet no lights nothing new so im at a loss to what it could be

Rik

There's definitely noise around, as Alan says, your target margin has been increased to 15db, which is costing you around 2000k in sync speed. However, for your attenuation, I'd expect you to get a full 8128 sync, so I'm wondering about other possible causes.

How many phone sockets do you have, what's connected to them, do you use an extension lead to connect the router?

I had a very similar issue last year, despite no apparent Christmas lights around. I reckon that it can be affected the line at any point. I would wait until after Christmas and see if things improve.

Rik

The problem is, of course, that as more people take up ADSL, cross talk is increasing too. It's going to be a big issue when ADSL2+ finally arrives.

get the same sync speed plugged into the master socket with no other devices atatched

Rik

OK, so it's on the line between you and the exchange. Have a word with support, tell them what you've tried, and ask them to test the line.

Rik

Don't you just love technology.  ??? Maybe, in the process, you made a better contact?

yea it s a bit better though still 1.5 mb off  :)

Rik

It would still be worth first doing a quiet line test, dial 17070, then option 2. If you can hear any noise, report it as a voice fault and don't mention ADSL at all. If it's quiet though, follow up with IDNet and ask them to test the lines, they may able to see an issue.

Rik

Crackle or just a feint hiss?

That'll be because the profile hasn't update yet.

Lance

or because of the noise margin. :)
