Just bought a 2700 router from ebay and need a little enlightenment!

background info..

System
Model: BT2700HGV
Serial Number: 940811028207
Hardware Version: 2701-100589-005
Hardware Options: Wireless present
DSL Modem Type: ADSL
Current Software: 5.29.117.3
DSL Modem: 7.2.6

Right here is the thing...

I did a factory reset using the reset button on the back and connected my pc via an ethernet cable. Ran the setup wizard and it asked me just for my IDnet credentials, user id and password which i filled in. Everything connected ok and i have broadband. Just as an aside i live in a rural area and was getting sync of approx 880kbps on my old router. This is syncing at 1536! surprised at the difference...

Anyway back to the issue. When i check the detailed stats on the router the connection details seem to be all wrong ie.

Connection Information
Broadband Connection: Built in modem - ADSL
Current Status: Fully Operational

DSL Connection Details  Broadband Link
DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair)
Protocol: G.DMT Annex A
DSL Channel: Interleaved
DSLAM: Country: {0xB5} Vendor: {TSTC} Specific: {0x00}
ATM PVC Info: 0/38
ATM Encapsulation: LLC

Its also saying the connection type is PPoE not PPoA and the encapsulation is bridged LLC, vpi 0, vci 35

by the way the key code is showing as Key Code: 52B5-26P4-6262-22T2-B26U which i did not change.

Everything works but nothing seems to be as it should. Is this ok? whats the best way to set this puppy up?

What Glenn said, Kielty. I'm not surprised by the speed gain - many of us have seen significant improvements.

Everything is now setup correctly and working. One thing that i suppose does not really matter but if i go into View Broadband Link Summary i get the following..

• View connection details
   Fully Operational
   DSL Link:    Connected
   Internet:    Connected
Connection Speed:
•    Incoming:    1440 kbps
•    Outgoing:    448 kbps
Connection Information:
•    Internet Address:    removed
•    Hardware Address:    --:--:--:--:--:--
•    Key Code:    528Y-27G4-A222-22BJ-B22V

My hardware MAC address has disappeared? is this a bug in the firmware?

Apparently so, they are all the same with BT Provisioning and configuration.

Doesn't seem to matter.

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

Mine was like that as well, so I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. :)

Rik

Mine is like that, and it isn't. ;)

Kielty

cheers guys..

I have to say this router is fantastic. I was resigned to a top speed/throughput of approx 700kbs the connection has now stabilised at 1.2mbps  ;D

Highly recommended for long or poor quality lines....
