I've got the N95 8gb and it really is a good phone. I can't compare to the N96 as i've never played with one of those!

I'll add my vote to the N95 8GB. I love mine. The only criticism I have is that I haven't figured out how to make a call on it yet. But the music player, radio, games, GPS etc. Great. :)
Have I lost my way?

Its meant to be between £490 - £590

Yes and i'm stupid enough to spend that much money on a new gadget  >:D

Yep they make great mirrors  ;)

I'm yet to find a smartphone that's actually pleasant to use. The N95 is certainly not it - clunky interface and sluggish response. The iPhone may not be the most technically advanced, but it's the kind of technology that I want to use.

Have you ever tried a Treo, Seb? I've used Palm PDAs since they were USR products.

Actually, no. I'm sure it's really me, though. :-\

I just don't see the point in all these devices that can do so much but are a pain to use.

Rik

Me neither. I tend to go for separates that do one thing well, and lots of pockets. :)

I just don't like Apple controlling what software I have on my phone I guess Sebby, but the N95 is very fast and great to use, I love the look of the iPhone but thats the issue its an icon and not a really practicle one for me I prefer buttons to touch screen and I like sending mms to my friends and having cut and paste, also I make video calls etc but its a pretty piece of kit I will give you that, and you know I was teasing  ;D

Thing is a lot are not now Sebby they have got a lot more user friendly, the N95 8Gb is easy to use one handed and is very nippy but as you say the N96 is not, its almost a step backward, god forbid but Googles android platform seems to be good, convergence is good in some ways and having a good browser the ability to geo tag images etc sat nav with built in gps rather than triangulating from base stations, stream video and use voip all with the use of a keypad with one hand is great for me and of course make calls and have good battery life and reception.
Windows mobile I find tedious to use and touch screen leaves me cold my old P910i had a touch screen but also had a qwerty keypad which was great, sending long emails by touch screen is not for me user friendly, the new Blackbery with touch screen has had bad reviews for that reason. I think 2009 will bring some new good phones but right now nothing is making me want to upgrade I think the credit crunch will bite into the handset sales next years as well. I shall wait for the N97 to appear and see what its like, till then if its not broken don't fix it ;)
