Hey guys

I want to rip my small collection of DVDs onto my computer - into HD (basically upscaling them) for use when streaming the film, to my ps3 and onto my new 720p HD tv (which can also downscale from 1080p itself)

Any programs that can do this? May as well get as much HD content available as possible

Simon

Doesn't the PS3 upscale standard DVDs anyway, Sam?  I'm not quite sure where the computer fits in to what you want to do, but I don't think it's a simply a one click process to 'upscale' a DVD, and you may be better off just looking for a cheapish SD DVD player which will upscale, as some of them can produce very good results.

Oh, just found this, which may be of interest.

One more thing, you may find that the copy protection on DVDs prevents you from ripping them in the first place.  ;)

Stream media from PC (basically acting like a storage device) to ps3 which is hooked up to the TV.

So as long as I rip them into a respectable resolution (avi) then the ps3 should upscale them.

You can't make the computer upscale them during conversion, afaik. Just rip them normally, and they should be upscaled by the PS3 and/or TV.

Streaming standard VOB files via Homeplug 200AV to PS3 works fine for me, if your short of space I believe DivX is ok now with the PS3
