Hey all

Before I move my speakers around (sorting out room) I would like some clarification that my subwoofer will not sound any worse on top of my desk rather than underneath (they do say it doesnt matter where you "stick it")

Im doing this cause my front speakers do not have enough cable to reach to the middle of my desk where my TV is without the subwoofer being moved too  :rant2:

Anyone got a sub on their desk?

Sub woofers can go anywhere in a room and sound the same, you can even place them behind a sofa with no great loss of sound quality. :thumb:

My sub woofer is under my desk, I would not have the room or the eardrums for it to be on the desk......it might shake a few things around, all depends how loud you like your sound  ;D

I had my old PC speakers sub-woofer on my desk for some time, as it was easier to access the volume controls, but now I have new speakers, the sub is on the floor behind the PC desk, and I do prefer the sound with it there, but then, it's different speakers too, so it really might not make much difference.  I think the best thing is trial and error, Sam, as the 'right' way is what sounds best to you.  :)

From the link given by Glenn

"One technique for finding your best subwoofer placement is to "trade places" with it. Place your sub in your normal listening position -- on your chair or couch at ear level -- with it playing bass intensive media and then search for the spot(s) in your room (on your knees with your head at just above floor level) where the bass sounds more pronounced. This unconventional technique is best performed alone so as not to draw strange looks and comments regarding your level of sanity from family and friends. ;)"

Yes, I would have trouble getting underneath the coffee table!  ;D

I would say keep the sub on the floor if you can, Sam. The desk is likely to act as a resonator for it and produce an imbalance - not to mention the vibration problems.

I would agree with Rik, I have two active subwoofers and both are on the floor to avoid vibration the PC one is under the desk, I can feel the external hard drives spin that sit on my desk and its pretty solid so I dread to think what a subwoofer would do.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

I do have 2 shelve on my desk and no room on the floor but have a printer shelf above the subwoofer tends to insulate the sound I also have CD s on top of the speaker sounds fine, but wouldn't have it on the top

Its really a question o suck and see, wherever suits your hearing is the place for it

Subs are meant to be floor standing really I think my two are huge both over 8" drives in big casings with the amp inside, so they could never really go on a desk as they are probably 12/1/2" square for the pc one and the AV one is bigger with an isolating platform and downward facing driver ;D The vibration from my pc ones would shake the monitor etc and that's a no go and just plain ugly as well, smaller ones may be ok though. It all depends on your set up :)
