Can't access certain websites

Hi all - Just migrated to idnet and am impressed so far.  One question though, I can't seem to access certain websites.  Being ex mil I want to log on to the army rumour network at

www.arrse.co.uk/cpgn2/Forums.html

I can get to it from every computer at work - but from this computer at home I just timeout.  Any ideas?

I just tried your link ...... straight in ...... no problem.    Have you tried deleting your temp' files etc??

Try clearing your temp files as mohux suggested cookies etc and reboot  if that dont work try Reset Web Settings on IE tools>internet options>programmes tab>Reset Web Settings uncheck reset my home page then click yes apply ok if your default browser is FireFox you will need to reset it as default.

Thanks for the tips - Tried all of the above, even cleaned out the computer with a fresh installation.  No Joy

To be fair, I couldn't access this site thru pipex either - So I guess it's my router (Voyager 2100).

Pipex set me up with a proxy server that seemed to work but I forgot to write down the settings and their helpdesk didn't know what I was talking about and couldn't help me again.

You could be right, I have a Voyager 2100 as well, mine won't connect either.. strange.

I have been looking too and cant find any either the router is discontinued but you should still be able to get the latest firmware going by some forums its a common problem with it some sites not accessable.

Sounds like your router - I have no probs with either site.  though it's a strange fault.
Are you letting the router pick up IDNet's DNS servers on its own, as that is the preferred option.

Getting a message on that site stating that it is experiencing more than usual activity.  Could be IDnetters checking it out.   Other site OK.

I don't know...  Other than connect to idnet I haven't entered anything else into the Voyager - Am I missing something?  My DNS settings have been entered into the TCP/IP in the wireless connections on the XP side but nothing else.

The activity on the VOA site is because of this

You shouldnt have the DNS settings in the TC/IP settings for the wireless it will restrict you access to some sites which is what is happening check the option "Obtain an IP address automatically" and below "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

Just looked - I unticked the check box last night and I am on automatic for both IP and DNS

Have a quick look at this Voyager 2100 see and compare if your settings are the same or similar

It has to be the router if mine is doing the same thing, I never touched any settings on mine...all on Auto.

I do recall seeing a driver update on BT pages, but I never downloaded it, cos' I havn't ever had a problem with it.

Yes try the speedtouch if that works then its obviously the router.

Hmm My very old speedtouch is in fact an old Voyager 100, what a pain in the aris to setup that is.  I shall wait until I get into work tomorrow and try the dodgy sites over the works wifi network.

Could this be any help?

One common problem that rears its head again and again on forums is the inability for users to view certain sites, in particular Microsoft sites, hotmail and ebay. Quite often this is the result of an MTU problem.

What is happening?

When your PC requests data from these sites, they use something called Path MTU Discovery to check what size packets to send back to your PC. If the site is unable to check what size packet to send it uses the default MTU of 1500 (for windows PCs). However there are there are certain gateways/routers on the Internet which use a smaller MTU, therefore the packets are too large to be transmitted and are rejected or dropped.

It is the job of Path MTU Discovery to find and report the smallest MTU setting between your PC and the remote site, so that the remote server sends out the correct sized packets.

What can I do to correct this?

You need to lower your MTU settings and/or make sure that Path MTU Discovery is working properly.

Usually  routers default at 1500 but if it was your MTU that was causing it you would be having trouble with a lot more sites by whats been said here the problem certainly seems to be your router.

Well, have taken laptop to work today and can access everything thru the Netgear DG834G (V2).  So guess what I have just ordered from eBay?  It just so happens that BT Voyager 2100s are fetching around £25 as well - Bargain, but take my advice don't touch mine with a bargepole.
