Put another way, Sam, it's not your job to police software for FAST et al, though when it comes to installing an OS, you may have to be more insistent.

Business is not about turn over, it's about giving the customer the best deal you can and making a good living. Some of my customers have been coming back for years because I look after them not because I am the cheapest but because we care. When we install an alarm system I would defy anyone to show a better installed system, if we have a problem I try to sort it out and in the very rare case of not being able to, I make sure the customer is happy with how we have come up with a solution.
Today I was called out by a lady who's alarm (not one of mine) had gone faulty in the night. The first firm she called wanted £300 for being called out and then £90 per half hour after that. I fixed the alarm and charged her £120 including parts, she asked for some business cards because her father and her boss wanted an alarm. So not being greedy pays off, but you must still make a living.
If some body told me they were going to charge me £35/hour for fixing my computer plus parts in my own home using my heating and lighting I would show them the door. But if they gave me a fixed price for doing the same job I would accept it even if it meant paying more per hour, at least I would know they had done it as fast as they could and not just spread it out to charge more.  ;D

:good: :iagree:

Way to go Den. I wish more businesses had that attitude instead of looking at every job as just another opportunity to squeeze the customer
