With idnet I have a static IP address and some DNS addresses - err where do they go?

AvengerUK

They should of been entered automatically by your modem/router. - If your posting here on your IDnet connection, they cirtainally have ;) (otherwise it wouldnt work)

Treat the static IP as a dynamic one which doesn't change, let your router find the DNS servers automatically. As Avenger says, if you're here on your IDNet connection, it's working, so sit back and enjoy the service. :)

Slightly OT.
I've often wondered, if there's an increased risk of a security breach with static as opposed to dynamic? ???

It's like asking which is the best processor, AMD or Intel.

The general consensus is not really (i.e. not a straight No), but there will always be somebody to argue that it is riskier.

My view is AMD to the first question, and  No  to the second  ;D

I tend to feel that, with always-on BB connections, the distinction between static and dynamic IP addresses in security terms has become blurred. If you connect to a dynamic address, and your router holds the connection for weeks, there's precious little to distinguish it from a static one. From a different viewpoint, I've had more attacks with inherited dynamic addresses, which have not been secured by the previous owner, than I have with a static address.

I still believe that Intel has the edge for Photoshop users. ;)

Hmmm, I've never thought about it like that. Cheers guys.

Oh and I'm an AMD and ATI fanboy btw.

So AMD are the best processors then after all.
That settles it.   ;D

Ive always been a AMD fanboy but having just unloaded a X700 on Eba i will not be going back to ATI i had nothing but trouble with their drivers and ended up using Omega drivers.
Now a Nvidia fanboy.

Nerval

Yes, AMD and NVIDIA here all the way.

Lance

It has to be Intel and Nvidia for me!

Actually, I think that should be Intel and Matrox! ;)

You haven't got Matrox there, so I can't vote.  :'(

I've been prescribed Matrox by my doctor, but it wasn't strong enough to keep me on topic.

Rik

Perhaps you weren't taking it as directed? :out:
