Den

Does anyone run Office 2007 with Vista. All seemed to be well but just recently Outlook refuses to open and I then have to reboot Vista for it to work. This seems to be the only program that will not run as it should on Vista and does not make sense as it's a Microsoft program.

Hmmmmm  will keep an eye on that Den as I have just installed Office on two laptops and every now and then one does get a bit quirky with slowness and not starting up. But saying that my wife doesnt use outlook although it is installed.

Ray

I use Outlook 2007 but on XP, I assume you've tried running Office Diagnostics from the Outlook Help menu ? the only other thing I can think of is to try a repair reinstall if you haven't already.

I've run a full reinstall and then downloaded the updates, seems to be worse tonight.

Myst

No problems on my Vista machine and 2007.

Thanks for that Steve, great find. It would not let me do step 1 but did step 2 and now it's  :fingers:  Thanks in hope :karmic:

Lance

I've not had a problem with it on either machine, Den. Lets hope yours is sorted now!

I never had a problem with it on Vista, Den. Hopefully you're closer to getting it sorted. :fingers:

I generally just us thunderbird

open source

free

better imo

Sebby

Thunderbird is really good, especially for a free email application, but I do like Outlook.

Den

Outlook 2007 seems to work fine now -- unless I set it up to receive emails when I log on and then it gives the same problem (well it has once so far), so I will continue using windows mail for my emails.  :(
Mr Music Man.

Rik

Odd, Den. It should work fine.  :shake:

Outlook 2007 works fine with Vista Ultimate on my laptop, it is configured to send/receive on startup and to check every 5 minutes, I have not come across any problems so far.

Den

Kaspersky 2008  ::) Why do you think this could be causing the problem ?
Mr Music Man.

Ray

It's possible, Den, have you tried upgrading to Kaspersky 2009, it's a free upgrade, this certainly works OK with Outlook 2007 and XP on my machine.

I read earlier in that thread link that mcaffe had caused problems. I use KIS as well, try disabling KIS temporarily and see if the problem still occurs.KIS also has an additional outlook 2007 plugin which can be disabled separately and KIS will still check incoming and outgoing mail with this item disabled. Not seen this issue as I use mainly Thunderbird. The other PC with Outlook has not caused any issues but we always do a manual send and receive.

Updated Kaspersky to 2009 and all seems well, have changed default email back to Outlook and works so far so it looks like it might be a combination of the earlier step 2 and kaspersky. While I'm at it I updated Adobe Flash Player on somebodys advice and now IE7 runs OK and has not frozen since.  ;D

Sebby

Good stuff. I've been using Kaspersky 2009 with Outlook 2007, albeit on XP, with no problems. :)

Ray

Hope it is all sorted now, Den.  :fingers:

Den

That seems to be sorted so I decided in my wisdom to go through the same exercise on my lap top. Disabled F-secure and loaded Kasperski 7 and downloaded updates. Then downloaded update to Kasperski 2009, tried to install update and it said I must uninstall F-secure and AVG 8. AVG 8 has not been on the laptop since last June. I uninstalled F-Secure and rebooted but than it would not let me install update as AVG 8 is still on there, I can't find it, any clues where it could be?

Ray

Have a look here, Den.  ;)

Just to report back, since updating both Kaspersky and Flash Player I have not had a single crash and all seem to be running well. I must admit I was starting to think the fault lay with Vista and I am so glad I was wrong.  ;D

Rik

Naah, it was Outlook all along Den. ;)

If it had of been it would have been a gloomy Outlook. Nope, Kaspersky was to blame but 2009 is a different beast   >:D

It is, Den, I like the way it gives you the opportunity to delete spam off the server without downloading it as well.  :thumb:

I'm just amazed how much quicker Outlook runs now and Kaspersky seem so much smoother and less obtrusive.  ;D
