Ram error

Hi

I have just tried to install 2 x 1gb chips of ram

All compatible with my MB  (nVidia nForce 650i SLI )
(double checked with the Crucial scan too)
However when i try to boot a get a constant beep and failure to load.

Forgot to add all ram is seated correctly

Any clues please

My haphazard list

Check nothing else been disconnected,i.e video card.Try one stick at a time in case one is faulty, check bios and ram settings for Voltage and timings
Clear CMOS

Philip, I did check the feedback prior as i do with any ebay puchase , and while there is some negative as you point out the percentage is small in comparison. This month is currently 14 neg and 1275 positve, so not really that bad.

Steve, i shall try that, tbh for now i've just put it back in the packet as its been a long day and temprement tends to suffer accordingly

Will have a better look tomorrow with the suggestions made.

Sounds like you have described Myst ?good luck with it,if its all done as you have checked it may be it is the obvious and that the sticks are duds ?

Will the computer work with just one of the sticks of memory, thereby allowing you to identify the faulty stick? Assuming that just one of the two is duff.

Gonna try that tonight, along with taking existing Ram out and go via a process of elimination and see how i get on.

Someone at work in our IT mentioned some boards don't like 4 sticks in, even though the bored says it supports it. If that is the case i may have to exchange and go for 2 x 2gb instead

Ram voltage may be important if using 4 sticks it sometimes gives the required voltage on the label.I think I'd try turning up to see if it will post with four sticks

Still no joy.

New ram works either individually, and as a pair and also a mixture with one old stick one new. (although for some reason neither the old or the new will work in Dual Channel mode) only works in slots 1&2

Reset bios to fail safe, also took the battery out to clear everything.
Voltage is auto - tried higher but to no avail.

Looks like a visit to where i bought it from; especially as the original don't work in dual channel mode - i would have though as they built the machine that they would have had it in that config originally (didn't know about that until my mate told me)

Shouldn't need to according to the MB manual, Glenn, all it says is that they should be matched. Both the old and new are individually matched  2 new same 2 old same.

Tried every combination with the sticks, new new, old old, old new  etc to no joy other than slots one and two where any combo works

If I recall to enable dual channel mode for 2 dimms they should be in slots 1 and 3 not 1 and 2 and identical with the same number of chips.Did you try turning off spd and setting the timings manually? Can you adjust the northbridge voltage upwards? How high did you go with the ram voltage?

CPUz will give you the voltage and timings if you cannot identify the ram. The overclockers forum may have some details.

My Gigabyte motherboard is like that. The DIMM slots are colour coded:-

1 - Orange
2 - Brown
3 - Orange
4 - Brown

If using two sticks of memory they can go in either the orange or brown slots.

Voltage, was tried in increments up up to 2.75

I did try both sets of ram in slots 1&3 red & yellow on my board. no good, they will only work in 1&2 in any combination of new or old
