Google is on the verge of launching a system that experts believe could make the personal computer as we know it virtually redundant.

Cloud computing is going to be interesting to watch over the next few years. I doubt and hope it will not make the personal computer redundant though.

Reasons listed below.

1. PC gaming ( errrm people like to game on pc's as well as console's you know)
2. graphics designers (think processing power here)
3. privacy (what privacy, especially in this case, it being google and all)
4. security (many policies won't cover having data hosted offsite with good reason. Security will fail!)
5. everyone is going to need reasonable bandwidth....


While i doubt very much this will occur. I can see a lot of sme's and soho's using this.

I don't think so,  turning all my data over to a remote company doesn't feel secure to me and I feel it leaves the user open to ransom from the provider if it was to be relied upon totally.

Whilst broadband bandwidth remains as it is in the UK, I dont think we'll see much change.

It has been on it's way since July 2006 and I will be more likely to share data with a Nigerian than Google, at least I would then know which way I am being screwed
