Need to connect laptop to normal tv

Hey

I accidently bought a VGA to component cable..then realising most tvs dont have component...and most vga ports do not output component..great

but anyway, i now need a way of outputting the laptop to a normal tv. this would mean vga to scart (??) or vga to RCA (??)

hmm it has some info

i deffo know that it has a vga adapter but iv tried using my vga to component (Y) adapter on my tv and its like my laptop doesnt output to component.

iv left a message askin for their laptop model and tv model (the guys im doin it for) so i can get some solid info

I just hope (best case) that they have both component (y) on their tv and a VGA port capable of component on their laptop

hmm

well either way iv got it plugged into my VGA and the composite (Y) plugged in the right holes on my tv (red, green, blue)

I did want the red yellow white cable but theres no saying this would work either (i know audio wouldnt work anyway)

Where it says

Im hoping this means if you are trying to connect something like a dvd player to a computer monitor..not like connecting a computer to a normal tv

It seems to be out of date anyway, Sam, given the reference to CRT. It ought to work.

Sam, what you need is something like this. It has electronics in the scart connector to convert to RGB via scart. VGA cannot be directly output through scart.

That's because it's not just a cable. Afaik, there isn't another way to do it. Our plasma, which is probably 6 years old now, does not have scart, so we are using a Keene SyncBlaster (scart to VGA). Even if we wanted to use component, we'd have needed a similar cable.
