ADSL filter kills answer machine

Basically

set up broadband for somebody a week ago
fitted filters
filter on the answer machine stopped that phone/fax/answer machine ringing or working
took the filter off..it works but as for now it cuts out the net when some1 rings

other than changing the machine (its old) is this a common problem with a solution or are newer machines not affected?

I've not seen it happen, Sam. The only thing I can think is that the filter isn't generating enough ring current.

Have you tried a different brand of filter? Something like an ADSL Nation XT-1e is good.
