just been looking through this thread trying to understand all this 2-Wire fuss

but find a lot of dead links in it. even got a 'Get me out of here' one from firefox. its not me having a go and I know you cant keep on top of every link posted but just wanted to point it out in case any one else was looking for info.

is the info on these routers with the version upgrade up to date do you know. Which are the ones to avoid

Baz,A lot of the links refer to setup page addresses for the 2 wire router, so if you haven't got one they won't work. One dead link refers to a hardware download no longer available and the others are addresses for servers BT use to "control"

the BT 2700HGV . The tripod links I believe are current and give the up to date knowledge.

Adding to Steve, the some of the tripod links are no longer valid due to a change on that website from one long page to a much neater and easier system of lots of smaller pages. The best bet is to start here which is the contents page and click through to the page you need.

Unlike previous versions of the 2700 Firmware, V6 of the the 2700 uses different URLs and so the only router links that work for you are those in sections referring to your firmware.

Hi

My 2700 is running firmware : 5.29.107.19
How do I upgrade to : 5.29.117.6 and is there any real benefit ?

Also I've been offered a newer 2700Hgv (mine seems to have a few odd moments).. but the newver one is running 6.1.1.48-enh.tm

Would you get that ??

The 5.29.107.19 may auto update to the 5.29.117.6, but we do not have access to the newer firmware to do a manual update. It is more likely to upgrade directly to V6 firmware.

I would get the new V6, I have been running one for some month's now and prefer it to the V5's

The 5.29.107.12 & 19 versions of the firmware will no longer update, the BT servers don't seem to recognize them anymore! . A 5.29.117.6 will update to V6 ( if its not prevented by changing the ACS url , see here http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm ), its a one-way trip though, once updated to V6 you can not go back to an earlier version.

How the heck do you change the routers IP Address ??

To get Content / Time Controls working for static IP Address...

I'm having the manually set the network devices to DHCP, then set the DHCP scope so it only gives ONE specific IP Address.
Once the router has found the device, I can set it's content and time settings then static it to the same IP Address given by DCHP.

Repeating this and changing the DHCP Address seems to work !

Which firmware version is it? If the 6, it's different to the 5s which I know, so I can't help, but Alan and Ted will.

Should that be blocked ??

Why do you have to have them as static?. The 2700 fContent / Time Controls and firewall works by device, it doesnt matter what IP has been allocated ( it will allocate the same IP to a particular device anyway!! )

I like my server to be Static, plus it makes it easier to manage the home network (currently at 18 internet enabled devices

I don't believe the old 'dns poisioning' trick works anymore. Any internal router services e.g upgrade provisioning, will bypass any DNS entries.

Not quite sure about V6 but on V5 its in LAN settings, Advanced.
You can also ( presumably on V6 as well ) use the 'Edit Address Allocation' to force the 2700 to allocate Fixed IP's to each of your devices, just select 'Private Fixed...' from the drop down list against each device. Much simpler than allocating statics on each device.
