I have an epson photo rx685 printer (excellent).
Prob is, every time I switch on it goes thro. an automatic head cleaning exercise which eats the ink.  In fact I read an article sometime back that one could use 25% of one's ink this way.
So, I'm tempted to leave the damned thing on 24/7.
NB: Don't wish to use anything other than epson inks pro-tem but will eventually succumb when the printer gets older.
Any comments on leaving switched on 24/7 appreciated bearing in mind it'll eat far less electricity than ink!!!

Doesn't it go into 'sleep' mode after a while?  I've always left all the printers I've had on all the time, as I can't be arsed to switch them on and off again each time I want to use them.

i used to have a epson stylus color printor. it didnt get a lot of use and i found that the ink dried in the heads and took ages to clean + loads of paper on test printouts.

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

We have lots of printers at work, mostly lasers but a few inkjets too, and they are left on continually. I don't think the standby power requirements are very great.

My last epson didn't have a sleep mode. Oh dear, this one has, RTFM Rick!!!!
Tks for all replies folks.

Fwiw, Rick, when I was working in the graphics industry, Epsons were the standard printer for photo-printing, but by the time I came to retire, most people were phasing them out, generally in favour of Canons, due to the ink consumption for cleaning, and the tendency to clog.

I leave my HP on all the time as it is connected to the network. It has a sleep mode and if it needs to do a head clean it will do it after printing something. Being a HP vivera, it is apparently very efficient with its ink.
