Is there any point in downloading but not installing this and keeping it on external storage as a sort of backup in case I lost or damaged my Home Edition TI 10 disk which we know is no longer obtainable?

Depends if you need to register it first I suppose.

The PCW one, you need to get the registration key from www.acronis.co.uk/mag/ati10pe

sometimes these registrations are only available for a short period of time.

I managed to get a copy of that but when I put it in the drive to look at it the disk made a noise like a plane taking off and so I quickly removed it. Rik reckoned that it was a faulty disk.

I' m not really too bothered as I doubt that I'll really damage or lose my original disk.

The other thing, which I do, is copy the DVD/CD to my hard drive, and install from there. It's faster and, if you have plenty of space, it's a backup at the same time.

Iirc, yes. Version 11 was a bit iffy, the new one (which we haven't heard much about) is 2009.

I've posted this before but for the benefit of anyone trying this free version I'm posting it again. It applies to TI v9 and v10. It's worth printing out the how to restore part BEFORE you need it.
