A Daft Question

Apologies for asking a daft question.

I have been waiting (too long!) for our rural exchange to be LLU'd, (should occur July/Aug 09). If and when this happens do I have to wait for IDNet to 'adopt' the exchange or can I immediately 'upgrade' to an LLU service offered by IDNet?

I know the question is pretty basic stuff but I am not 'on the ball' with LLU etc.

IDNet don't have a LLU product as fas as I know

What Glenn said, Quandam. IDNet are not yet big enough to be able to offer LLU services, though we are doing our best to help them grow.

What they will be able to offer you shortly, once your exchange is enabled, is the WBC 24Mbps service. How much benefit you'll see depends on the sorts of speeds you get now. 3Mbps or slower and there's little benefit.

That's what I was after. Once the exchange is upgraded (eventually) the WBC 24Mpps service would be very appealing indeed. I am around 400 meters from the exchange and currently get around 6.5Mb/7Mb download speed.

So, to confirm, once the exchange is upgraded I can opt to 'upgrade' to the 24Mbps service from IDNet? If this is true it would be fantastic.

You can and it should be, you'll probably get at least 18Mbps.

Ah, yes, you're talking about WBC, Quantum. When you mentioned July 2009, is that the WBC date?

I think my hopes were raised too early. The July date is for 21CN exchange upgrade. According to SamKnows there is no date set for 21CN WBC as yet. I assume that the 21CN upgrade would not afford me access to the 24MB package?

It wouldn't, Quandam.

Be aware, though, that as the date approaches, you are likely to get periodic interruptions to your phone, which will also drop your ADSL connection.

Correct. 21CN is the upgrade of BT's network from PSTN to an IP system. WBC (Wholesale Broadband Connect) is BT's ADSL2+ service.
