Printer Ink

Has anyone else noticed this?

I have a Canon printer and have always bought Canon Ink for it as in the past cheap replacement inks have always ended up wrecking my printer head.  I have just tried my usual sites to buy some replacements and have found that in the last two or three months they have virtually doubled in price! An ink tank that last time cost me about £8 is now nearer £15 !!

Anyone got any recomendations for Quality ink suppliers at affordable prices?

I have found the same for my Canon IP6700D, the price seems to have doubled over the last few months. I always said I would not go back to using non genuine ink but enough is enough. I have just bought a set from a local guy who runs inkXperts in Wrexham and saved a fortune, so much so that if I had to buy a new printer every couple of years because the heads are blocked I would still be quids in.

I am going to run these ink tanks and see how I get on but according to the guy who owns the shop I should not notice much difference (he had the canon ones on the shelf but was honest enough to sell me the cheaper ones). He also said that he can get replacement heads for most models of printer.

Mine's an i850 and I have just recently changed the print head after about 4 years of use, although Canon's are great because the print head is easy enough to change, they are not cheap, cost me £48, so hence don't want to wreck it with cheap ink, but not willing to pay the money Canon are asking anymore??

Not sure about that one Sebby,  "Think" Ink never heard of it.......

Anyone used JetTec ??

well I use the same ones as in Sebby's link and find them very good even before they started using the 'Think' brand. Have had the ocassional bad one from them, happens sometimes with compatables, but I just got on the phone and they sent me a replacement free, didnt want the old one returned, no questions asked.

all depends on the quality you want really.

I would also recommend them.  Their 'Think' compatibles are as good as the originals, in my opinion.

I've also used Choice Stationary in the past for their Think compatible cartridges, never had a problem with them but I don't know how they compare on price now.

Well, that appears to be a resounding vote for Choice Stationery and "Think" Ink !

i would endorse sebbies comment, i have used choicestationery.com compatibles for 15 years and only once did i have a problem, where the cartridge just did not work , which they replaced, without guestion, despite the fact that it had been in my ink storage drawer for 12 months, (which i told them)

i think you,ll find their compatibles are made to BS7550 (i think thats the number) which means they are equal to ,or better than the original manufacturers version

for the benefit of us senior citizens, BS7550 is like the old "kite mark" only better.

as for printer manufacturers saying using "compatibles" , means you loose your guarantee, thats never held up in court !!!  as it would be considered to be "restrictive practice" what ever that means.

Use JetTec and Think, never had a real problem with them, used in HP and Epsom printers.

Used 'Choice Stationery' and their Compatibles for about 8 years now on two Epson printers with only one cartridge failure as far as I can remember, current batch are 'Think', had them before, no prob's. First printer died of machanical failure after a lot of use, mainly photo printing. I know the advice is to use originals for better photo quolity but I've been happy to use 'Choice' compatibles.

I think many compatibles are fine for everyday work, Brian. When it comes to photography, I do believe that the manufacturers ink/paper combination is hard to beat. At the same time, I wouldn't particularly recommend self-refilling, which I've found to be a very variable operation.

I agree with every thing you say there Rik, tried self refilling once and what a mess that made. I'm happy using compatibles and having found photo papers which suit, and I think maybe photo's tend to fade quicker with compatibles as well but    but as I say, I and people i've done pic's for seem happy.
