I'm surprised to hear that, Steven. The 2Wire's wireless is one of the best in my experience. As Simon suggests, perhaps you had a dodgy one. Or it could just be the wireless channel. Did you try changing that?

Lance

The 2wire units I have had have certainly been better than my old Linksys used to be. The default setting of 1 I believe is 100mw which is the legal maximum in this country.

Yes, that's always a risk with EBay and I did consider this. However, a work colleague of mine also bought one of these on my recommendation (based on what was said about output power), and whilst he does not have the same issues that I've experienced, he does not get the improvement in connectivity either. (His house is a tad larger than mine, but still not exactly Blenheim Palace)
I'm wondering if the unflashed (ie non- Singtel) versions are fine for wired connections and that the "modified" versions with Singtel firmware will be a better option where wireless connectivity is your driving consideration. Would there be a noticable hit on d/l speed at long distances from the exchange with Singtel firmware?
For me it was originally recommended because I was a long way from the exchange so it was billed as being better in that situation, (and there was a slight improvement it should be said) and I thought improved wireless output power to eliminate cold spots would be an added bonus. Unfortunately the poor wireless connectivity means that it will go back in the box until my next visit to the recycling centre. I can't justify further expenditure on wireless access points to relay the signal, and mains networking is a costly option, just to get a small improvement in d/l speed.

Fair enough. I guess it's not for everyone. I shouldn't think you'd have too much trouble selling it on.
