David, try running the soundcard setup file from the disk using administrator (run as administrator).  Don't let the cd run automatically but find the setup.exe file to run from explorer.  Running setups as administrator often cures problems installing stuff.  I know you are probably set up as an administrator account but that doesn't work the same in Vista as it did in XP.

It just looks like an information message, David. Does the boot proceed as normal?

I've seen that on my machine, when it's booting, when looking for a boot device it's trying to see if it can boot from the Network, David, you can stop it from trying but you would need to go into the BIOS to do it.

But will a new sound card rectify ????????
No point asking in Maplins I will come out with a set of speakers  ;D

Rik

It won't rectify the boot message, it should get round the sound issue, but remember to disable the onboard adapter in the BIOS.
