I use Red Laser which scans the bar code and then pulls up prices online. Quick way to see if something is reasonably priced.

Great. :D
What about things like OCR scanners (text readers)?
Do they work well?
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Puffin web browser free will play some of the flash content videos on iOS devices, not all I admit but I've just had a browse through BBC sport and it's not done too bad a job.

Have you seen the terms and conditions for Red Laser, Lance. It allows third parties from what I remember access to your device ID Location etc, it was great till it was bought out, when I saw the new T & C's I ditched it.  :(

Data provided by you hereunder or generated in connection with the Application
Images uploaded by you for identification

That app was useful, but for me those terms were a no go  :(

Although, effectively, probably fairly benign.

Maybe, but the old App never did this, there is no need for ebay to need my device ID, to many apps already give away to much of your privacy anyway.

Do app developers need to get them re-approved by Apple, I wonder?  I agree, Gary, there seems no need for eBay to have that information, but I'm not sure what personal data a phone ID contains.  Could they, technically, access contacts, etc, from it?  :dunno:

I'm not sure Simon, all I do know is it seems wrong for what the app is and many others thought the same thing, and that sets alarm bells off in a world where privacy is hard to find unless you are a complete Luddite, which is some ways may not be a bad thing...

I can't say I'm too worried. I wouldn't say the information is going to give eBay anything useful.

I've got bigger things in life to worry about then letting eBay know what I was thinking of buying and where.

Sadly I tend to think that's how privacy gets eroded, people just think its ok to have data collected about them after all its only a small amount here and there and it seems unimportant, but all this info gives a hell of a lot of information about you when put together, and also makes it harder to get back to a place when we have control of what is monitored in our lives as we surrendered it bit by bit because we didn't really notice, or care. Each to their own though.  :-\

I think the desire for privacy and using a mobile phone are incompatible wishes. Much of what we do in our daily lives can and is being monitored.

I wonder if it fixes an issue I've found with my car handsfree?  If a call comes in while the iPhone is connected to the aux socket to listen to music, the music cuts out, as it should, but will then not come back on after the call has finished.  This also happens if I try to use Siri, as that also cuts out the music to use handsfree.  Not sure if it's an issue with the car stereo, or the phone.

I'm not having that issue with the Ford Focus (2012 model) we have, Simon. Then again I can play music over bluetooth while some cars have lost that ability, maybe there will be updates to car firmware/bluetooth firmware soon, I know there is one for Fords that you could download and install last year via usb, or go to your Ford dealer so I assume this may be true this year. Hopefully 6.1 will sort out more bugs, also with Forstall gone maybe Ives at the helm of human interface design will give us something new next year.  ::)

Mine is a 2012 Ford Galaxy, Gary, but only the basic version, which doesn't have a USB input.  It worked fine when I first had it, but then developed the issue intermittently.  I'm now wondering if it coincided with iOS 6.0?
