Blurred text in Vista

It was news to me, as a Vista dummy, that blurred text in applications like Windows mail, comes as standard. I discovered this after fiddling with various resolutions, DPI settings and the ClearType tuner to no avail. The solution seems to be to turn off Aero. However, I was pleased to find that there is an option; Personalisation/Adjust font size (dpi)/Custom dpi/check XP font scaling. This renders text that is clean, without turning off Aero. Bring back XP, eh?

Never had that issue with vista but I find that clear type always looks blurred to me, so I have it turned off and everything looks great

I always have Clear Type turned on. It looks much better to me, in XP and Vista.

I've never had that problem with Vista Ultimate and with my "iffy" eyesight I would have noticed. I don't believe that blurred type comes as standard in Vista using Aero, must be something wrong with your settings.

I found many instances of this problem by searching blurred or fuzzy text in Vista. It seems that Aero renders text in a completely different way and that is the probable cause. I suggest there is the option to revert to XP scaling because of it. I have found no Microsoft fix. The effect is most marked comparing rendering of say desktop icon text with Windows Mail text. I cannot say that all users will have or notice the problem, but many do and that is attributed to an Aero rendering issue and not local settings. The problem is not present in Vista Basic and I have not researched Ultimate. ClearType tuning seems to have no effect on this problem. Generally I have found that CT tuning does not improve rendering much on WUXGA screens, (1920x1200), even using a mag glass.

I believe it's totally dependent on what's in your glass next to the monitor.
