Having finally got the 2700 up and running the SlingBox I have connected to the router will not connect as normal. It would appear that it is being blocked by the firewall within the router. Has anyone any ideas as to how I can get round this? :dunno:

Just to confirm, is the router firewall in addition to Windows firewall? If it is, can it be totally disabled without causing probs? How do I do this? :dunno:

Many thanks.

Rik

It is in addition, Q, but I'd not recommend disabling it. Someone with a Slingbox will be along later, but I wonder whether the lack of UPnP means you need to do some manual port forwarding.

Correct Rik it uses UPNP you can manually forward the ports http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/2wire/BT2700HG-V/SlingBox.htm

Not checked the details but should be o.k

Looks like its only one port 5001 TCP & UDP unless you've changed it

Isn't V6 of the 2700 firmware meant to have UPnP?

I've heard it mentioned but never seen any confirmation.

This is a quote from the Tripod page:-

--

"Does BT v6 firmware support uPnP ?  From observations and application tests with v6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm, there is no evidence to suggests it supports uPnP.  Or if it was rumoured to be offered in an earlier 'beta', it has now been permanently disabled/removed."

Yesterday I pointed Tripod (Bill) to our site and after he visited this thread he has today updated his comments about uPnP and V6 on Tripod ....

Quote
No uPnP Support

(14 Mar 09):  After reading a comment on the IDnetters sub-forum dedicated to the 2Wire 2700, it reminded me to report on our findings regarding whether the  BT 'v6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm' firmware supports uPnP.

Contrary to earlier unconfirmed reports, we can find no evidence that uPnP is available on this release of firmware.  There are no menu settings within the firmware to enable uPnP.

Simon performed a simple test of enabling 'uPnP' on his Sony PS3.  The PS3 reported 'uPnP unavailable'.

I have conducted a simple test using uTorrent bittorrent client.  I removed any port forwarding rules I had previously defined on the hub.  Ensured that uPnP was enabled within uTorrent.  Then visited this URL to test the firewall.

            http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port=XXXX

where XXXX is the Port number defined in uTorrent client.   The test failed.

So that is pretty definitive

Steve, your link was spot on and I now have SlingBox up and running. Thanks to all for their input.

Never thought I would be dealing with 'port forwarding', TCP (thought it was for putting on stings), UDP (thought it was a political party!). We definitely learn some things on this forum! ;)

Thanks again :thumb:

Rik

I can only just manage post forwarding. ;)

Its an excellent site for port forward instructions you may need to setup a few more if you come across other software/devices that utilize UPnP.
