Well it is a couple of weeks since I got my 2700HGV from Ebay. I am quite close to the exchange and sync at maximum rate on what I consider a good line. I had quite happily been using a couple of other modems and their performance was almost identical. A noise margin during the day of about 11db dropping at night to between 6 or 7db.

I had read about the 2700HGV on Idnetters and didn't really think one was necessary for me, after all my line is flat out with a good margin. I was playing on Ebay one day and casually placed a cheeky bid of £2.20 for a 2700. To my surprise I won and one week later was the proud owner of an almost new Dual SSID version.

I put it on my line to IDNet. Speed was still max with a noise margin of 13db. To my surprise as night came the margin dropped, but only down to 12db. In fact in two weeks the lowest noise margin I have seen is 11db.

I'm not sure it makes any difference to my connection and the more technical boys can probably explain the reasons why, but the figures do seem better than anything else I have tried on my line which includes Linksys and Netgear.

I had a similar experience, JB. A NM fluctuation of -11db on a Netgear DG834 flattened out to -2db on a 2700. Whether it's simply the reporting mechanism or improved performance I don't know, however, I rarely drop the connection now, where it was a weekly occurrence with the Netgear. So, to me, something in the 2700 modem is a lot higher quality than the Netgear's.
