Hi Just
I've just joined IDNET. So far so good much better speeds now.
Just one little annoyance ...
I have set up a netgear dg834G and works fine. Now i'm trying to get a network hardrive to show up over the internet. I have set the DMZ to point to its ip address 192.168.0.99  and would have thought I could either see that from outside or the router management on port 81.
I could ping it (turned ping back off now).
I think the admin team can see my ip address can you see if a password box comes up. I enabled remote management on port 81.
Do I have to set any other firewall rules , or turn off dOS attacks ?
Thanks
Steve

We can see your public IP address, Steve, but not one in your private range.

I'm not sure what you would need to do to make the drive visible externally, hopefully someone will be along shortly who can tell you what you need to do.

i was thinking that if you went http://mypublicipaddress   or with :81 on the end you would see a password box come up ? Wouldnt the router forward traffic to 192.168.0.99 as I set that in the router setup.

Still navigating menus's on it !! Lots to learn yet.

Thanks
Steve

I do get the username/password box.

Ah thats it then, it must be working.

I tried from school but there is all sorts of port blocking in place. It could be they block naviagtion via IP address. If I had a DNS name it might work.

Thanks Rik.

Hi Steve, just totally guessing here but in the Netgear settings there is an Advanced section in the meun on the left, from there try Remote Management part. Is that what you are looking for. Thats as far as I can help you with Im afraid, its all above me  ;D

It certainly sounds like they're blocking all outgoing ports, other than those specifically allowed through (81 not being one of them). Could you make it port 80? I'm not a network expect so that could be a bad idea! :P
