general question....do you use a screen saver and your systems power saving options.

Ive always thought them a bit gimmicky and dont use them now, dont think you get screen burn now so whats the need.

Complete waste of your time and your energy consumption.

Kids like 'em which is why they're often used to install malware.

Personally, I just set my monitor to enter standby after 30 minutes of inactivity.

AFAIK, screen-burn only really applies to CRT monitors.

I haven't used one for years, but I turn my computer off when not in use, unless I'm downloading something overnight, in which case, I just switch the monitor off.  :)

Historically, screen savers were to prevent phosphor burn-in on CRT displays. Of course, no one really uses them anymore, and it burn-in doesn't occur on LCDs. Screensavers still remain for cosmetic purposes. I just have been screen set to switch off after 5 minutes. :)

Rik

Same here - no point in them.

LCD monitors don't suffer from the same kind of "burn-in" that CRT screens do, however, they can suffer what's known as Image Persistence which leaves an image on the screen. Although it would appear the effects are reversible.

Although black is the new white when it comes to LCDs. :)
