what does the message 'insufficient bandwidth' mean when watching something on the BBC site

Possibly their servers are overloaded, possibly that your line speed is not adequate for the file you're trying to view (though I doubt the latter, given my line).

coast to coast it got to about 24 mins when we got the message

thats ok. no problems it was probably as you say, their site
