Baz

dont know if we've covered this or if any one has had bother with it but the new version of java also installs some thing called JQS.EXE which is the quick start feature to make java stuff run quicker, or something  :dunno:

anyway it apparently uses loads of memory but can be disabled from the java console in control panel, advancedtab then miscellaneous and untick it.

dont know how much difference it makes as ive just un ticked it lately and im trying it as I found some info about it saying that it might be the cause of screen savers or power features not kicking in and my system was doing that.monitor set to shut down after 5mins, would work a few times then stop shutting down for ages until I manually 'ok' in the settings

also if you sit and watch task manager for a bit you can see this jqs.exe flash up every minute or so

:dunno: again

Simon

Thanks, Baz, useful to know.  :thumb:

I've recently updated Java and seeing your post I thought that I've have a look at it in  Control Panel. However I see that it isn't enabled anyway, I'm running Vista Ultimate.

edit: I've just run a Google search about this item and found that it is turned off in Vista. ;D

well my power save features have started to NOT kick in again :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

thought id sorted it with this Java thing then found a microshaft update that might have been causing it, some hardware update cant remember now(how do you find which updates are on your system,XP) but now its back to not working again.

more of an annoyance than any thing

This might sound odd but what keyboard do you have, its not Microsoft mouse or keyboard is it? There is a patch that stops this behaviour if you are using one. See link below, its in Vista but I do not know if it effects XP as well, to view updates select the tick box for viewing updates at the top of the add and remove programs screen in XP

Thats odd have you installed any other program recently apart from the latest java one? I found on my acer laptop the very latest Microsoft intellipont 6.3 driver helped sort out a few issues for my mouse.
