So I got a whole bunch of updates today, one of which was to upgrade to IE8. I was curious, so I let the update go through. Unfortunately it doesn't like my system and I keep getting "Internet Explorer has stopped working" (usually when I launch a link in a new window and then shut it down. I then get a DEP pop-up.

I want to get rid of IE8 and go back to IE7, what's the easiest way to do this?

Thanks for the link. Found it under Control Panel - Programs - View Installed Updates - clicked on the IE8 update and was able to uninstall it. After a reboot IE7 was back.  :)

I think there's a way to block the update, to stop IF8 installing itself again, but someone will on doubt expand on that, Steve.

This was posted on American forum, I've no experience of the program myself as I haven't got automatic installation of Updates and I just blocked IE8 from nagging me.
QuoteI am blocking IE 8 from automatic delivery on our household computers because there are some websites that don't display correctly even in compatability mode. I'll unblock later this summer as the sites are updated.

If delivery for download has already been initiated, the tool will not block the download unless a visit to Windows Update is done manually. I tried it and clicked Custom and the yellow shield in the tray disappeared. Also, IE 8.0 will not be listed in Priority Updates.

For those interested in the tool, it's similar in function to what Microsoft released when they began the push for IE7. It is designed for IT professionals in an environment of automatic updates. Home use is user discretion.

The tool has been available for some time. Those interested may get it at Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 8

To apply the tool, first create a folder named IE80Blocker in the root directory. Run the downloaded executable and browse to C:\IE80Blocker to extract the required files. Open a command prompt and enter cd\ c:\IE80Blocker. Then run IE80Blocker.cmd /b and it's done. To unblock, run IE80Blocker.cmd /u. For help use the /h switch.

Keep the C:\IE80Blocker folder on the system to make it easy to unblock later.

Thanks for that, Noreen.  :thumb:
