Hmmm, I wonder if/how this will effect my court case with Poopex  ???

Rik

It shouldn't affect it, subsequent changes of ownership are not relevant.

And that's what their users will use to try and knock sense into themselves, let alone jumping from one to the other
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

I'd be on my way with a Mac if I could, or even a MAC. ;D

I'm not sure whether to say poor Carphone Warehouse, poor Tiscali, or poor end user!

Poor end user, the Carphone Warehouse are snake oil, and along with Tiscali they make great bed fellows.  :shake:

It's not just the headline names, of course, but people like Nildram as well. :(

QuoteCarphone Warehouse will become the largest residential provider of broadband after buying Tiscali's UK business. The telecoms company will pay £236m for Tiscali's network of 1.45 million broadband users – less than half what the debt-laden Italian company had hoped to raise when it started looking for a buyer a year ago.

Chief executive Charles Dunstone said the deal would leapfrog Carphone over BT and Virgin to give it 4.25 million users, more than a quarter of the domestic high-speed internet market. It launched its first broadband package in 2004.

"It feels like an extraordinary achievement, having not been in the residential broadband market for many years," Dunstone said.

Tiscali is the fifth largest internet service provider in the UK, behind BT, Virgin, Carphone and BSkyB.

Dunstone said the deal would immediately boost Carphone's profits this year, increasing earnings per share by about 10%. He hopes to achieve savings of up to £50m a year by March 2011, by moving Tiscali customers onto Carphone's high-speed network and billing platform....................

I came to IDNet from Nildram. :) Things just got better after that.

It happened when Pipex brought F2S

I was another one escaping from Pipex. ;D

So was I, once they took over Nildram. Funny how we all feel the same about them...

F2S was great in the early days, much like IDNet even down to being run by two brothers. I remember being quite stunned when F2S phoned me up on the day that I was connected to them to check that everything was OK and that I was happy with the service. ;D

bobleslie

At one time, Pipex used to be quite good.

It's so long ago I can't remember when.

It may even have been before broadband.  ;)

I was with Pipex for nearly five years, and they never put a foot wrong, until Tiscali got involved, then the whole thing turned into a shambles.

Same here, Simon. I went with Entanet after Pipex for under a year before moving to IDNet.

That was exactly the same for me. In the first four or five years with Pipex I had to reboot my router once for which I was notified in advance that there was a planned outage to upgrade my exchange. I went from 512Kbs to 1Mbs to 2Mbs to 4Mbs and that's exactly what I got.

Then Tiscali got involved and Pipex became Poopex. They moved me to Tiscali's rancid LLU service and my rock-steady line dropped to 1.5Mbs so I upgrade to 8Mbs and it dropped back further to 512Mb/s before finally dying as they inadvertently put a cease on my line while they continued to pillage my credit card. After that it got a whole lot worse but that's a story for another day  :shake:

I was with Nildram and when I heard about the buy out by Tiscali, I migrated immediately to IDNet.  Certainly no complaints here, service and support are excellent and when things do go pear shaped, things are sorted quickly.

Apart from my wife, who keeps my feet firmly planted to the ground, no.

I sometimes feel I might benefit from one, though.

OTOH it may just be my age.  ;)

I've tried most forms of therapy, Bob, and only cognitive (CBT) has had any practical use, the rest were mired in understanding the misery, but not dealing with it. :(

That's rough, Rik.

One of our relatives has had problems, but has recovered remarkably due to the efforts of the shrink.

The problems were caused by the medical profession.   ::)

Me? I'm a happy little bunny most of the time.  ;)

It's OK, Bob, I was something of a guinea pig for a number of the treatments. I learned to live with the issues, albeit with some restrictions on my life.

I got a letter today from BT offering me the chance to switch to them and get away from Carphone Warehouse. Problem is I left Tiscali back in October 2006!
