Hi!

My profile has dropped again, any simple remedies to get it back to normal? :dunno:

Thanks in advance.

What are your router stats like?

Q,Your IP profile is correct for your current sync, looks like max sync on an interleave connection possibly.

That profile is correct for the sync speed, Q, and the sync speed suggests that interleaving is on. ATM, there's nothing you can do, but tomorrow you can ask IDNet to have interleaving turned off, but BT might be reluctant if it's already been tried once.

Glenn

Are these what your after?

I can't understand why BT turn interleave on with a line with that margin and attenuation. :rant2:

They did that to me with similar line specs. I blamed a dying 2700HGV. Now using netgear and interleave has stayed off :fingers:

That confirms you have interleaving on, Q, so your max sync is 7616 and profile 6500. The only thing wrong with your stats (which I would kill for!) is throughput, and that's likely to be down to exchange congestion.

Would you advise to have interleaving switched off or simply leave things as they are?

Rik, I do think you are right about exchange congestion, over the last few weeks or so I have seen a difference, so, one would think that my (rural/small) exchange has had a few new customers added.

Rik

It depends on your error count, Q, and whether interleaving has been turned off before. Your stats would suggest no need for it, but the error count may indicate otherwise. If it is needed, the line would tend to be unstable when it's off, but for that attenuation and noise margin, I can't see it happening.

You can check your exchange status here, but I find the data is often not current, it's quite hard to get accurate information as end users.

Thanks for the help chaps :thumb:

As others have mentioned, if your error count is low, you can safely have interleaving switched off. BT does have a habit of switching it back on for no obvious reason, though.

Update.

Sorry to have to say this but thought I would unhook the BT 2700 Hub and give my Netgear router another go. The BT test is attached below showing differences from my OP results. It does appear that things run a little sharper, steadier and faster (increasing recorded speed quite a lot) using the Netgear. This may all be 'in the mind' but your views comparing the two BT tests would be useful :dunno:

The people who benefit the most from 2700s, Q, are people like me, with long lines. If you're able to get full sync, then the benefits recede somewhat. However, to really compare performance, you need to do side by side testing, which is next to impossible for most people. With any tests, the results shouldn't be taken in isolation, but over a period, in order to establish a pattern.

Q The impression I have on my connection with similar stats to yours is that the BT2700 HGV does not perform as well as my current Netgear DG834n (broadcom chipset) router plus in addition I utilise UPNP so the decision was not difficult.

If you've had interleave removed recently your profile will take 5 days to reach 7150 however I also achieved a full sync of 8128 (IP7150) with the netgear with interleave on. The max I achieved with 2700 was a sync of 7616 with interleave on.

Thanks for that Steve.

I am in two minds whether to ask for interleaving to be switched off, if, as you say, my profile will rise to 7150 if it is switched off then maybe I should go for it :dunno:

Rik

You've got little to lose, Q. It should be fine without interleaving on your line and the worse that can happen is that BT decided to turn it back on again.

Q, Your profile will rise using the Netgear with interleave on at your current sync rate of 8128.

Update

Interleaving now turned off and everything going fine (steady 6.3 download speed). Being greedy, (I have absolutely no reason to complain! ) will my profile now remain at 6500 or will it slowly rise to 7616 over the next few days or so? :thumb:

Rik

Give it five days, Q, as it's a relatively small profile step.

It'll rise to 7,150k - that's the maximum profile. :)
