So, after much deliberating I have finally ordered my Broadband as well as a phone/line package from IDNET today.  I have just about had enough of poor speeds from PIPEX during the weekend and evening.  Although I hate to drag down Pipex's name, as it was that they were ,in my opinion, an excellent ISP, but then Tiscali, and now CPW, well you know the rest......

So I am guessing I will get some sort of confirmation email from IDNET probabbly tomorrow? and again guess that the Internet will take less time than the phone to change over.

Was quite difficult deciding on the packages to go for, as I have no idea how much my monthly d/l is.  But at least it is easy to change packages on the "fly" by the looks of it, if needed.

Welcome, we are glad you have joined Idnet, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.  :thumb:

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

I'm sure you won't regret the move. If your line is with BT, it takes about 12 days to go through, but there's no interruption to service, it's just a switch of the billing process effectively. Most migrations take about 5 working days with little or no downtime. If you were on an LLU connection, though, there will be a short break as the physical connection is changed at the exchange. Most people seem to report this as 10-15 minutes.

You can sign up for RSS notification of your daily usage and projected usage from the accounts page, which you'll have access to when IDNet confirm the order details. Once you have that, you can also set up email addresses, web space, blog space and photo album and these will all be available to you immediately.

If you don't want to use RSS, then you can check whenever you want and IDNet will, in any case, send you a warning email if you're likely to exceed your allowance. This does not result in any speed curbs, though, you simply pay £1/GB for each additional GB. It is, as you say, easy to change packages.

Oooh !  That sounds ominous.  Not some strange initiation ceremony I hope  :o

Thanks for the welcome guys.

These are my current stats for ref:

ADSL Link              Downstream    Upstream
Connection Speed     6240 kbps    448 kbps
Line Attenuation         35.0 db       20.0 db
Noise Margin                8.3 db       18.0 db

and as of Sunday afternoon a speedtest using Pipex/Tiscali.

NOT good I think you would agree.  Was getting 5.2 Mb/s earlier today.

Rik

Definitely not good, I'm sure you'll find IDNet better. Now, about the initiation...

Just wanted to say... I switched to IDNet in 2006 after some awfulness with first BT and then Eclipse (many years ago so maybe they are fine now) ... this weekend is the first time that I've had any trouble that I've noticed.  The forums are great - people give helpful advice, and the few times that I've had to call IDNet they are super - they start from assuming that you have a brain, which is refreshing.

So I've got problems right now, but still very confident that they will be sorted!

Generally happy customer.   ;D

Welcome to IDNet. :welc:

Pipex has been THE worst ISP for around 2years+. :eek4: (Very personal knowledge of this!) You may not have thought so but if you had monitored the forum on TBB over this period you would have noted that their admin has been the pits and has been accused of theft, fraud and offences much greater than this (if this can be possible). :eek4:

They actually stole, nay,  thieved, £30.00 from me without as much as a bye your leave, there were many, many more who they stole money from.  :eek4: These problems were way, way prior to Tiscali or CPW getting involved.

I think you have got away with it very lightly indeed, your choice of IDNet will be the best move you have ever made.

Pipex and IDNet should not, never ever be be mentioned in the same sentence!

Rik

I don't know, Q, how about comparatively as in 'chalk and cheese'? ;)

Welcome from a former Pipex user. Soon you will have the novel experience of being able to use your internet connection at weekends and after 5pm weekdays.

Glad to hear you've joined us, Karlak.  There's a fair number of ex-Pipex users here, and most of us have never looked back!  :thumb:

Hi Karlak, I completed my migration on Friday (from Nildram, also under the tiscali umbrella) and it involved maybe less than 5 minutes of downtime when the Tiscali engineer actually did whatever it is he/she does at the exchange (I only noticed it because I am online all day).

I got a confirmation email from IDNet, followed a few hours later with an email telling me when (day and time) the migration should be completed. :karma: :welc:

Automated Phone systems are the best thing since sliced bread if set up correctly.

A lot of companies do not set them up properly and they are "awfull"

you can do so much with them.

Guess what one half of my company does? and guess who keeps them going  ;D

Rik

We'll be straight round with the wirecutters, Dean.  ;D

Maybe we could run a poll?

Press 1 if you think we should cut Dean's wires.
Press 2 if you think we need to run more trains near Dean's area
etc etc
Press 9 if you think we shouldn't cut the wires!

;D
