David

Hi all its a quick visit but I recently upgraded to ADSL2+ as I have the twin wire BT would it be easier to get another router for this task? I have already a faceplate etc did this last year I dont think it would be a good move to try and download the latest frimware for this router is there any way I can change the settings to work for this service ............or is it a new router time ? I am not keen to change my settings on router as ,well I am likely to mess it up

I am running around like a headless chicken at the moment so posting in between breaths....

Thanks

The router is connected at 6964k and this has resulted in a profile
being set for your line of 5500k. In order to try and improve this, can
you connect the router and filter to the test socket found behind the
faceplate of the master socket to determine if any improvement is seen?
Also, please check your router settings to ensure it is set to use
ADSL2+ and also has the latest version firmware available from the
manufacturer's website.

Hi David

You're ahead of most of us on WBC, so you know more than I do at this point. :) The 2700 should be fine, though. Where did that message come from?

Brian at support.my thoughts were the profile may be stuck rather than change the settings  :dunno:

Rik

It's early days for a stuck profile, what are your line stats like?

Rik

That's them, David. It seems like the profiles for ADSL2+ are lower than the ADSL equivalents. I shall have to ask some questions...

Rik

I've asked. BT haven't yet published the profiles, but they do appear to be lower, based on the few available examples. Give with one hand and takeaway with the other springs to mind. :(

What was your previous speed like, David, ie on Max?

David

My speed has not really changed Rik  :dunno:

Rik

Odd, I'd have expected you to see benefit from ADSL2+. Me, I'm right at the point on the graph where the two lines converge, so I expect to see little or no benefit.

Thanks Simon. :-*

Well its a bit of an anti climax really just heard back and apparently the speed I have always had is the max the line will take  :dunno: and no more can be squeazed out.................. :shake: that was a waste of time and wait

BT claim it will deliver 10 but its a guestimate....I have learned something but Im not quite sure what at the moment

Rik

That's what I'm expecting on my line, David. The real benefits are for those who can get 6Mb+.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 6964 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1035 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 5500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5122 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP

Just managed to do one......The only thing I know is I laid out £11 for nothing

Rik

£11? You are getting about 2.5x upstream, of course.

Steve

Hi David, I thinks that's the key Rik its the potential gain in upload performance, its pretty desperate on standard adsl trying to upload anything at present.

Rik

It's only those on 6M and above that will gain significantly downstream, imo, Steve.

1Mbs up?  :eek4: I didn't know about that when I signed up today. What a bonus! I do quite a lot of uploading so any increase in the upstream will be extremely welcome.

OK, you have all lost me now  :eyebrow: What is this all about? signing up for ASL2+, how, where, why?
Mr Music Man.

Simon

I think they're talking about WBC trials, Den.  You'll need to speak to IDNet.  :)
